Cardassian 'Hero' Class Assault Boat:

Overview:

Codenamed 'Hero Class' by the Federation, this unnamed class of assault shuttle is designed to ferry troops into a planetary landing situation, or get them within range of a transporter boarding action. Carrying a crew of three, and twenty additional troops, the assault boat is equipped with two light spiral-wave disruptors. The troop space is to either side and below the crew cabin, with ten troops to each side in a cramped troop bay that affords little space besides that for the troopers themselves and their weapons. A small cargo bay is located below the crew compartment, for storage of heavier weapons and gear.

The assault boat is tough, but not very well shielded, relying more on speed of assault for protection, each boat carries four sensor countermeasures pods: two of these pods are active jamming, and two are decoy pods which, when ejected, can create sensor ghosts - making the assault force seem larger than it may be.

Perhaps the codename 'Hero' was assigned by a sarcastic Starfleet Intelligence officer who knew, just as well as the Cardassian troopers do, what the assault boat's chances would be in a combat with a larger ship.

Was screwing around with aeroshuttle sketches a week or so ago, and came out with these, may do more angles on them later. but in the meantime.

Sparrow Class: Aeroshuttle - Attack Variant (TOS Era)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/SparrowI.gif

Overview:

While the mainstream Sparrow class is designed as a transatmospheric and space-capable shuttle, the attack variant was upgraded as a point-defense and surface or near-orbit based attack vehicle, regarded as an 'attack shuttle' this sleek craft had a large airfoil wing area and a crew of two sitting side-by side in the cabin area, the attack ship was impulse-driven only with a large impulse drive system that took up most of the rear fuselage aft of the cockpit cabin. Firepower was provided by two phaser cannon pods that rode the wingtip pylons, these pods contained their own power amplified and reserve energy cells, as use of the phasers continuously could drain the attack ship's main power reserves, even so each pod's power rods could fire 20 short phaser blasts before being exhausted if forced to rely on their own power, the centreline fuselage could accept an additional phaser pod beneath it.

The attack variant, while fast and maneuvrable, was still badly outmatched by larger starships unless assaulting a ship in numbers, they were, however suitable for patrol and point defense missions in and around the local area of a planet or starbase, but eventually Starfleet command retired all the attack variant, reconverting them back to the base Sparrow hullframe until the class as a whole was retired. A few squadrons of Sparrows were transferred to Starfleet Academy, and were used as impulse and atmospheric/transatmospheric flight trainers.

Sparrow II - Aeroshuttle (Era: 23rd Century)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/SparrowII.gif

Overview:

With the retirement of the original Sparrow aeroshuttles, a redesign of the airframe took place, making the overall fuselage more aerodynamic and improving the control surfaces of the airfoils, the impulse drives of the Sparrow were moved higher in the fuselage and improved greatly in power and efficiency. The basic use for the Sparrow had not changed, however, and it was used primarily as an atmospheric and transatmospheric basic flight trainer for the campuses of Starfleet Academy. This model, however, did not have a combat variant.

Two versions of this craft existed at the time: the first was the standard airframe used by Starfleet in it's role as flight trainer which, as with the first version, had the cadet in the left-hand seat and the instructor in the right. The second version was designed to be used around starbase and other space facilities and difference from the primary version by it's lack of atmospheric wings. While both models could be used in and out of an atmosphere, the greater surface area and use of the wing surfaces of the primary model made it superior in maneuverability within an atmosphere.

The Sparrow II had a long lifespan, and models from this production run can still be found in private hands on worlds across the Federation and beyond.

Sparrow IV Aeroshuttle: (Era: 24th Century)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/SparrowIV.gif

Sparrow IV

Era: 24th Century

Overview: The Sparrow series of aeroshuttles have had a long and largely unglorious life in the United Federation of Planets and in civilian and government hands, and in Starfleet as the flight trainers that many a Starfleet member has taken their first flight and shuttle training in, after an attempt to ressurect the Sparrow-as-fighter concept in a third model in this oine - the Sparrow III was nixed as unsuitable, the redesign of that model led to the current Sparrow IV model series.

With it's aerodynamic teardrop shaped wing area and flowshape, this newest model reflects the current technological level of the Fedeeration and is utilized both in it's traditional roles and in service aboard starships as a complement to the Argo class aeroshuttle. Unlike previous models, the IV is warp-capable.

Note: the Sparrow III was an attempt to once again create a 'fighter' and was built to have two phaser cannons in the wing roots and an underslung microtorpedo launcher pod, the III model never entered production as the Danube runabouts and 'Attack Ship' (seen in DS9) performed better with a heavier weapons load.

Justice Class Patrol Frigate

Older rough sketchout that I keep meaning to rework and develop a bit more.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/Justice.gif

Underside view:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/Justice2.gif

Overview:

Generally speaking, cruisers are the 'glory ships' of Starfeet. The feather in their captain's caps, and get to see the galaxy, meet new races, and go where no one has gone before and all that.

And yet, for every glory ship, there's workhorses behind them that do the other tasks necessary to hold the Federation together.

Small, dependable, and built for it's duties, the Justice is one such workhorse, often assigned patrol, policing of the spacelanes, and quick response duties. While life on a patrol frigate may often be boring, the crews of these ships have seen, and continue to see, their share of action and the unknown.

The forward torpedo tubes are located on the structure on the ventral side of the main saucer while the aft torpedo tube is located on the neck, below the impulse unit. This ship can seperate it's saucer section as an emergency measure, with secondary warp and impulse units located in the outermost edges of the saucer - it won't go fast, but it will go.

Above the warp nacelle on the neck is an auxiliary sensor/deflector array covering the angles that the main deflector - embedded in the saucer dorsal - does not.

(yes, I know the debate concerning single nacelle starships. :D *ducks to avoid incoming rocks*

2. things to do: rework the nacelle to make the brussard collector more visible.)

Impressive approach.
I´ve always had a soft spot for the Joshua Class because it´s such a well-executed design and not just a kitbash. And this looks like an interesting refit.

A poster on the Intrepid forums showed me the Joshua class as a comparison when I posted this one way back when, I liked that. :)

Federation Fencer Class Light Cruiser:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/Fencer.gif

Overview:

On the lightest end of the Cruiser weight scale, the Fencer Class was constructed primarily for medium to long range patrols and escort duties that would be unsuitable for smaller classes such as the Defiant freeing those vessels up for shorter range operations and for their primary mission profile. As with many Starfleet vessels, the Fencer is capable of more than one mission profile, although science and exploration mission profiles are more suited to such vessel classes as the Intrepid or Nebula classes. One mission profile associated with exploration that the Fencer has been employed in is as a long-range scout vessel. Packed with sensors and advanced communications systems, the Fencer makes an excellent platform for both reconnaisance and for picket functions, which would be it's primary role in the event of an interstellar conflict. The Fencer Class is also utilized for the coordination of smaller ship squadrons of Frigates, Destroyers, and Escorts either in a combat situation or in routine patrol functions over an assigned area as part of a flotilla.

The Fencer is true to it's name, quick at both warp and impulse and agile, it's saucer section tapers and extends to the aft in a single boom hull assembly, the engineering hull and deflector array are underslung at the end of this boom, with it's forward torpedo launchers riding the ventral part of the engineering hull, just below the deflector array, the vessel's shuttlebay is located in the aft part of the engineering hull, while it's aft torpedo launchers are located in the tail end of it's aft boom. The vessel's two impulse drives are located on the inboard aft edges of the saucer section, while the warp nacelle pylons are located just above the engineering hull. The long boom hull is primarily stowage for additional fuel cells and other ship's systems as well as the turbolift to the engineering hull area. The engineering hull and boom can be seperated from the saucer section in the event of an emergency.

Interesting idea. Looks like a pathfinder for the Steamrunner design before they radically changed the configuration.

^
and correct to a point, it did start out as something of Steamrunner pathfinder, and just kept going from there, it was also partly done by request of a forum poster on anothr forum for an idea.

I just kinda ran with it, and was happy with the result.

:)

thankee.

Nautilus Class Deep Space Probe:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/arkadyfolkner/Nautilus.gif

Overview:

Era: Early 25th Century

First laid down at the dawn of the 25th century in 2405, the Nautlus Class was built to be a deep space probe vessel, going to the 'furthest reaches of the final frontier' as it's lead designer put it. The vessels of this class are designed to stay away from starbases and Federation space for years on end, undertaking extended range exploration missions. Fitted with extensive automation in many areas, the crews of the Nautilus Class are quite small when compared to its large size, and the vessel carries everything it needs for it's extended missions, including the ability to refine it's own fuel. Holodecks are standard regimen for the crew to combat boredom.

The Nautilus utilizes a quad-nacelle design, as this provides a measure of redundancy, although the warp field coils in each nacelle have outstanding endurance, only one of the two warp nacelle pairs are usually in operation at any one time, although all of them can be brought online for emergency usage. In case of dire emergency or catastrophic damage to the section of the hull that terminates in the nacelle pylons, the Nautilus crew can eject the whole section of the hull from the main 'saucer section' back, bringing two smaller warp coil arrays in the maint section online by automatically rerouting the EPS systems into the backups.

The long boom though to the aft warp nacelles is also additional storage for deuterium tanks, the automated fuel refining systems, mass cargo storage, and other necessities to the extended range missions that this ship is designed to undertake, Nautilus also carries a recrystallization chamber for it's dilithium as well as the ability to mine dilithium with it's shuttles and two workpods stored aboard.

Ya know, I really envy your ability to make a unique looking design that still feels like it's a Star Fleet ship.:techman:
