Fringe: Season 1

Over the last few years I kind of fell out of the habit of watching TV, particularly when I spent 2009-2010 at university in Ottawa, where I didn't have a TV, so I wasn't watching Fringe from the start, which is otherwise the sort of show I would probably have been following. Anyway, I got around to checking out the first season, and overall I think it was pretty good; it doesn't pop right out of the gate like Alias did, the procedural stuff can be a bit rote, but the more the main plotline comes into focus the better it gets, which is promising for the later seasons.

As an aside, is there a point to Peter and Astrid? The former obviously has some significance to Walter, and will presumably eventually hook up with Olivia, but in terms of a role on the show he often seems to just be kinda there. Astrid even moreso.

Without giving anything away, Peter's role in the show becomes somewhat more... pronounced... as the second season goes on. If you've seen the S1 finale, you've seen the first hint of this already. Astrid stays mostly in a supporting role, but is likeable all the same, IMO.

It's definitely a show that gets better as it goes on.

As season 2 progresses, you will start to see why Peter is integral to the whole Fringe story. Many of the other characters play a subtler role that you'll grow to appreciate by the time you see the third season.

Since you've just seen season 1...can you tell....did Astrid seem to act like all the Fringe stuff seem relatively normal? What i recall, she acted like she's worked with Fringe-type stuff before....or was that just me?

Yeah, Peter's role......You took the words right out of my mind, Canadave. I don't think I would've been able to find the right word for it. "Pronounced" is good :techman:

As usual, the first season of any given show is always about set up. The "PTB" (Powers that be) have been quoted in saying that the season was going in a certain direction, then decided to make a turn when they saw how favorable certain aspects of the plot were developing. Does everyone know about the Observer?

The end of season one is good, but the rest sucks. Same with season 2, and season 3 is the opposite.

But yeah Peter plays a large role even when he isn't on screen.
