So Walternate is the Defense Secretary and instead of being located in DC, the offices are on Liberty Island.

I think it was mentioned in earlier episodes that the White House and the Pentagon were destroyed on 9/11 in the alternate universe. I guess Walternate wasn't in the building that day or he became secretary sometime later. But at least it could explain why his headquarters are on Liberty Island... that and the fact that most of the "fringe events" seem to happen in and around New York.

That would make sense, I like the fact that the Statue of Libery is copper coloured, it is like a shiny new penny.

Unless the 9/11 attacks leveled the Statue of Liberty and was recently re-built.

No Randi you werent the only one. I thought this was a just average episode myself. There were some cool moments and some neat things in the background to look at but overall not much happened.
I thought it was a poor choice to kill off the powered people in such a lame way. A brief battle against their counterparts in the park or a heavily armed AltFringe force would have been much better.
Walternate on the other hand was great.

I am so glad i am not the only one!! Thank you!

Oh, I didn't think of that, I thought it had something to do with the atmosphere not oxidizing copper like our universe or something.

Or maybe copper has slightly different proerties in this universe?

If the atmosphere didn't have O2 Walter would be dead the first time he crossed over.

A slight change in chemical proerties of copper could be to blame, either that or the french guy who designed her decided to use a bronze alloy instead of copper. Or some other alloy, remember that Universe was more technically advanced than the others.

Or maybe they just coated it with a non-oxidizing agent, nanite scrubbers, or any other similar possibilities. (Occam's razor? Wazzat?)

I thought it was an interesting episode. Was nice to see more of the alternate universe developed, though I thought their version of the Fringe Division was pretty cheesy. One problem I've often had about alternate universes is how we're supposed to believe all these myriad choices and options that presented themselves to the people therein lead them down nearly the exact same path as in the story's main universe, no matter how long ago the diverging took place. No Andrew Jackson? Yet everyone has a doppleganger in roughly the same position/outlook in life/field of study hundreds of years later? And now we see that Olivia's doppleganger is sexing it up with some completely new guy... but if the show took place a hundred years down the line, any offspring she produces will be exactly the same in looks and personality type as the ones she produces in the main universe. WTF?

Not that this is a criticism of Fringe, but sci-fi writers in general.

Anyway. Really enjoyed it despite the nitpickery. And if I had to choose which universe was the most "evil," it would definitely be the main one. Afterall, as far as we know, it was the ministrations of two evil, callous, and self-serving mad scientists from the main universe who set the war in motion. Walter is the one who kidnapped a child. Walter is the one who broke the barrier between the universes and created scenarios in the alternate universe where a government task force has to regularly face suicide and the murder of hundreds of thousands of people every day just to seal up the mess the main Walter made.

As dark and evil as they're trying to paint the Walternate as being, he seems to simply be trying to stop all of that by eliminating the "evil" universe that created the whole mess. Better to destroy one universe then sit back and watch both of them consume one another.

He lost his son ~30 years ago. He's all but a complete stranger now, and he's just a means to an end at this point. Walternate lost it long ago at the hands of Walter's actions.

Redhead Alt Liv is a hottie. Though I like our Blonde Liv better. All the altverse fluff was cool. Excellent ep all around. Nice to see Charlie. I'm guessing the guy who got Kentucky Fried on the bridge was like an alt version of mind-control guy's dead brother, since he seemed to recognize him. And the firestarter chick was seen before. She killed the asshole from Jericho who briefly took over Fringe Division. Too bad they all got whacked so quickly.

I'm guessing alt-fringe has no clue about any of the nefarious secret projects Walternate has going, like shapeshifter supersoldiers, head swapping, etc. They were all kind of goofy eager-beaver types running around plugging holes in the spacetime continuum and hunting down monsters of the week with no "alt-arc" stories to clue them into the main plot.

The sudden appearance of the X-Men seemed pulled out of nowhere. I've forgotten why a dip like Peter can make such bizarre demands as setting up Professor Xavier's school and have them fulfilled. But if they were getting such amazing results with the second string, why weren't they training Olivia? Olivia was supposed to be the strong one, since she fiddled the idiot box of lights.

We are informed that Walternate's superweapon will destroy the world and Peter. The show doesn't seem to be quite certain which is more important, particularly the X-Men, who seem to think working through their feelings for Walter is more important than either the end of the world or Peter.
The Observers are doing so much acting their name doesn't seem quite appropriate any more. Walter's sudden memory that an Observer told him not to let Peter return is a pretty crude retcon I think. Arbitrarily gifting Walter with lucid moments where he suddenly remembers key plot points has always been a huge weakness in the only good character on the show.

Killing off the X-Men so there can be fake jeopardy about how Olivia, Walter and Peter will return seems more like a stall.

Peter sleeping three days is astounding. I would react far more vehemently at being sedated for no obvious reason. Walternate not bothering to be there is quite peculiar. Walter's easy way of dealing with Peter's voluntary departure was remarkable. Walternate's reliance upon persuasion was equally unlikely, since his plans to save his universe hinged upon Peter. Certainly Our Heroes haven't wasted a second thinking about what Peter himself actually wants.

The fun with the altversions was infectious and raised the episode above average, despite the painful nonsense justifying the plot. Increasing psychic energy!:wtf:

The weirdest thing of all, in one sense, is a security camera in the hotel filming Peter's departure. Why would they need to go out into the hall. Most of all, since when do security cameras have sound?

We really don't have enough information to make judgments about Walternate, but he's definitely been built up to be a villain. Heck, Walter was nasty and scary pre-mental hospital/brain loss-induced redemption-wishing, even though he wanted to save his son, of course. Walternate hasn't had that "problem." He's not a nice man. Even his wife told her son not to trust her father (in Greek.)

Of course, he may be entirely right that the other side's destroying the universe. Walter said his trip to save Peter tore nasty holes. The alternate universe's problems could stem from that. Walternate just doesn't know it isn't deliberate.

Peter should of course make his own decision about which universe to stay in. But that's a decision he needs to make with all the facts: knowing about being sick, Walter saving him, and, of course, the apparent possibility of him destroying the universe.

With the end of two worlds looming at the horizon, the main villain revealed and all that other stuff, could it be TPTB are wrapping up this myth arc for good next week?
Meaning, no parallel universes but a completely new arc with the start of next season?

Even though I want Peter back with our team, I was happy to see him reunited with his real mother. I felt so sorry for her when our Walter took him.

Also: Seeing Scarlie painfully reminded me of how much I actually miss Charlie.

I loved the attitude of Alt-Olivia, though as someone else mentioned, the red wig looked like, well, a wig. It would have been cool though if she spoke with Anna Torv's natural accent, just to change things up a bit more. Can't wait till next week!

A very entertaining episode. Not sure what the special powers were about, though. Seemed kind of random...

I think my favorite part was the West Wing poster. Nice to know it hasn't been canceled yet over there. Oh, and California sinking into the ocean.
