FRINGE gets 4th Season

That's not what I meant at all. You're ability to twist words is amazing. You got all of that because I capitalized the word fiction?

I'm not a published author or a scientist, but I know that Fringe is science fiction. It's not supposed to be real. I'm pretty sure that was apparent from the very first episode. I don't have a problem with hard sci-fi or whatever it is you're talking about. I think it's ok for Fringe to not be 100% accurate when it comes to science. Star Trek never was... I seriously doubt someone would turn into a lizard if they went warp 10. You can use science to write science fiction stories, but it's still not real - therefore it's fiction.

I'm tired of you twisting words and making everybody feel like an idiot. All I did was capitalize the word fiction and you went into a diatribe because you thought I was attacking your profession or something.

And I'm not criticizing the show. I FUCKING LOVE THE SHOW. I was just saying this show wasn't science FACT.

No you weren't. You were saying they can put any old fantastical stuff in there but because they've got a lab and a guy in a white coat talking technobabble, it's science. It's as scientific as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which also didn't have any pretensions.

I really enjoy the hocus pocus in this show. It doesn't take itself seriously so why knock yourself out about it?

I still don't understand where I mentioned any of the white coat talking technobabble. I'm confused. Is there an alternate universe me running around?

I don't understand why some people do have a problem with some of the science. Nobody is running around trying to dig up Edgar Rice Burroughs and desecrate his bones because there aren't any Amazon women on the moon. Science fiction doesn't have to 100% accurate to be enjoyable or worthy.

Agreed. Last i checked, Star Trek was still called SCIENCE fiction, even tho their ideas of FTL and phasers and the like were not science or anything, they were fantasy.

This is the episode of Voyager that stands out in my mind as the equivalent of 'soul magnets in tea.' I mean sure, Star Trek often has some very silly science in it, but there is a line somewhere for me between ridiculous pseudoscience and outright laughable absurdity.

I'm not criticizing Fringe or Star Trek as a whole, just saying there's a line somewhere between warp speed and turning into a lizard or parallel universes and soul magnet tea. I can't exactly define it either since all of it does fall into the category of fiction.

Time out! TEMPORARY thread closure so that we all can take a breather to get back on topic about "Fringe", and away from the ragnarok over "science FICTION" and "FANTASY" and whatever else.

wow! great news :)

I am a 4 eps behind on my DVR-must watch....

Fox actually NOT cancelling a good show? Amazing..X-files built Fox as a major network and this is the closest they have come to X-files since it ended so maybe they are hoping for a big ratings uptick. The ratings for x-files season 4 was off the charts! This show won't approach that but here's to hoping for good numbers for a season 5!

Sorry Zod, but welcome to 201x. Fox doesn't give shows a quick hook, it gives them a couple chances to show they can sustain themselves(see Dollhouse and Sarah Connor as other examples), Firefly fans seem to have a problem accepting this. But on the flip side, shows don't grow an audience. They start high and slowly bleed until they need to be cancelled, fans of shows from the 90s or earlier can't seem to understand this one.

Fringe won't see a jump in season 4, and Fox doesn't expect one. A 22 episode order seems to indicate WB cut the license fee so that they could produce enough episodes for a syndication deal. Basically, Fox will probably pay so little for season 4 that WB takes a loss on the season, but makes up for it via increased syndication revenue. Unless WB is willing to go even lower, don't expect a season 5. Let's just hope someone explains that to the producers so they plan season 4 as the end of the show.

I pretty much agree with this though while I expect Fringe to maintain the 1.4/1.5 demo come the fall return of Fringe, that time of year could see Fringe jump up a bit. If Fringe could hold at around 1.7 for the majorty of its season then FOX would take a look at it doing a short 5th season over the following fall.

The writers plan on 6 or 7 is never going to happen but the numbers between late september and November could decide if a short 5th season happens.

i do wonder if something bad will happen to Astrid? I say this becuase they have never really developed her character at all.
