Fringe 3/18/11: Discussion and Commentary

I wonder if Bellivia is going to sing the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins.

Really liked that episode. It was fun.

I didn't like this episode--this stretch of the season beginning with "Concentrate and Ask Again" up until tonite's episode has been very underwhelming, lacking narrative urgency and aimless.

The plot of the week was just padding--in theory it is certainly an interesting topic of a person unable to die but here it wasn't to put to good effect and I thought was wasted. Anna Torv wasn't channeling Leonard Nimoy but if you ignore the fact she didn't nail him the quirky persona we got wasn't too bad.

The science on this show is getting awful. Even if the bonds keep the soul anchored to the body the damage to the body was still there. And she has appeared dead before and managed to come alive so I think Peter jumped the gun declaring her demise even if it was ultimately the case. Lincoln was boring and wallpaper--they could have used any body in his perfunctory role.

No advancement or relevations regarding the mythology I guess they are going to wait until the last 3 episodes to get back to it but the show sure isn't giving all its got to show it wants to get renewed if this is the best they can offer up on a weekly basis.

Below average.

I liked it. I have an idea to save money, just stick all the characters in Oliva, then they only need to pay for one actor. :)

So how much money does the person who holds a gun to startrekwatcher's head to make him watch TV shows he doesn't like make anyway? It must be pretty profitable.

I don't know... it so predictable. Every episode of Supernatural he didn't like and almost every episode of Fringe this season. I have better stuff to do on Friday than sitting around watching crap I don't like.

I think he also posted in another thread that he wants Fox to cancel Fringe so he doesn't have to watch it anymore. :guffaw:

Probably the same person who forced you to watch V and complain about how bad its writing and dialog were.

You do realize I made the weekly V threads, right? There's a difference between accepting a show for what it is and being Stewey. Everyone on this board who watches V knows exactly what kind of show they're getting and there's a lot of MST3000 camaraderie in those threads. I don't think anyone's said, "I hope ABC cancels V so I don't have to watch it anymore." Because that would be downright pathetic.

Fantastic episode, capped by OliviaBell's musing on why that woman didn't die until that time... she had to save those people. Torv's got some acting chops. I sincerely hope they dont' cancel this show, because I for one am enjoying the average episodes, and relishing the standouts.

I thought the whole suicide/condemned soul on Earth story was touching as well as the other arc of that awkward chemistry that has been created between Walter/Bellivia and Peter. At times it did seem that Olivia's swallowing the frog accent kind of lapsed but the other acting carried it through.

Don't worry. If Fox cancels Fringe, The CW will pick it up. They'll have to write off Broyles and Astrid and replace them with young white people, have Walter take a de-aging potion that will magically turn him into a 20-something hunk with abs of steel who likes to take off his shirt a lot, every exterior location will use the exact same city street set and every problem will be solved with one punch right before the second to last commercial break so the show can play some hip new Top 40 artist to fade out to the end credits.
