Free Games!

GTA5 is free on the epic store (and it was accessible earlier) for the coming week.

Yesterday evening it seemed to be a little overloaded.

Yep and I think they removed 2fa for it. Was able to snap it IP without that pesky code once the site was back up.

A pair of Discovery games based off Assassin's Creed are free this week, Egypt and Greece, via Ubisoft.

Tell Me Why will be free throughout Pride Month, Dontnod announced today. From June 1 to June 30, it will be possible to download this queer episodic adventure game to the platform of your choice, where it will be available permanently.
In a post on Tell Me Why's official site, Dontnod wrote that the decision is part of a desire to allow "even more people to access the game." Dontnod also hopes to encourage players to spend money in places that will directly affect trans and queer communities.
"We’ve received heartfelt messages from players all over the world about how Tyler's homecoming as a trans man and Alyson’s struggle with trauma have impacted them, encouraged them, or made them feel a little less alone, especially amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic and pervasive transphobic rhetoric in places like the United States and the United Kingdom," Dontnod wrote.

The entire Shadowrun trilogy is up for free on GOG right now and until the end of the sale.

Any one is very much worth picking up, so all three is a fantastic get if you've never played them and like infinity engine style RPGs, and the Neuromancer/Blade Runner inspired end of the cyberpunk genre in general, with the unique angle of it being mixed in with Tolkienesque fantasy elements. You want street samurai elves, cybernetic dwarves, and magic wielding hackers? You bet!

For me personally; Dragonfall was by far the stand out. Very few old school style western RPGs have managed to suck me into both the world and the narrative like that. The original was fine, though limited and painfully linear. Hong Kong I found a little harder to get a foothold on for some reason, but I'll definitely give it another try at some point.

GOG have some old classics going for free until September 3rd; namely the 'Ultima Underworld' 1 & 2 pack, 'Syndicate Plus' (which includes the expansion pack) and it's sequel 'Syndicate Wars'. So that's four games for the price of...uh, none!

Personally Syndicate Wars is the only one I played back in the day...and not very well. Generally I'd just go around murdering and/or persuadatroning everything in sight, setting off bombs and demolishing buildings. Young teenage me wasn't much for narrative or strategy...
Still I booted it up again anyway and while it did bring back some memories, as one might expect it has not aged well! The controls feel especially awkward by modern standards, but it still oozes mid-90's cyberpunk in that pre-Matrix, Blade Runner meets Ghost in the Shell way. Might be worth a giggle and it's not like you can complain about the price!

SteamWorld Dig 2 is currently up for grabs for free on both GOG and Steam for the next 20hrs or so. Get it while you can!
I found the original surprisingly addictive, and was only disappointed at how short it was, and since this one seems like it dramatically expands the size and scope of the original game, I'm really looking forward to getting into it!

Ooh that's cool I grabbed a copy on GOG......

Don't forget Epic Game Store is in its annual holiday mode where it gives out a different free game every day until the end of the year but get in while the getting is still good. Each offer is only available for that one day (though it's yours to keep after claiming).
