Saw this the other night and was pleasantly surprised. The fantasy elements were very well realised and the plot was well enough wrought that you didn't realise what was happening until quite close to the end. And then, miracle of miracles, the ending was pretty good. It was a debut effort by Gerald McMorrow and pretty impressive.

My only cavil is the nationality of one of the principal actors. I won't say more in case anyone wants to chase it down.

Yeah I saw this for the first time last year. Pretty much instantly brought the dvd. I thought it was brilliant, and I think it's a film where the twist actually makes it worth watching again.

Although it seems to have flown under the radar and no-one else I know has seen it.

I watched it and liked some aspects of it, but I didn't think it was all that great. Maybe I'll check it out again.

Very imaginative, very well done. But I thought Ryan Phillippe did a fine job.

But I was flabbergasted to realize at the end that all the hugger mugger was so the hero and heroine could meet cute!

Fantasy as a genre and fantasy as wish fulfillment are very, very closely related.

I stumbled on this on Netflix last month and loved it. There was a really nicely realized Steampunk world in half of the movie. I thought the ending was going to be bad but was surprised and satisfied.

1/2 an hour in and it seems like pretentious fanwank.

Richard Coyle is acting like a reasonable human being.

That's so wrong.

Remember the days when he had too many legs for a woman to fall in love with him?

Eva Green is a really attractive 45 year old woman in an 18 year olds body.

Or the other way around.
