Frakes up for more TNG

i believe LeVar Burton and Marina Sirtis have also expressed interest in another movie. Hopefully one that doesn't suck. These guys deserve a really good sendoff like the one given to the TOS crew in TUC. i mean, for awhile, EVERYONE was watching TNG, probably equivalent to the wide audience that TOS reached. Yet, this crew barely had one GREAT movie (most would consider 3/4 to be average movies). do the 3 duds justify the one hit? or another stab with a 5th TNG movie? I think they'd have had better onscreen success if the franchise wasn't being watered down (no offense, but people were getting tired of Bermaga's Trek) with DS9 and VOY during their movie run (and I love those shows, but I also love Trek... i'm not the average audience). Realistically, no they won't get another movie, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it happen.

start the petition....

although, it would be cool (and possibly confusing) to have two Trek branches making movies at the same time, although they would probably hurt each other in the long run. for the longevity and good of the franchise, i think Trek should stick with and focus on JJ's take on it. IF they did make another TNG movie, though, I'd like to see some new directors and producers, someone from the outside (no former cast members, no Frakes or Berman or Taylor or Bennett or Dawson or McNeil or Dorn or nimoy or shatner, etc.) Bring in someone new and knowledgeable like they did with Nick Meyer and TWOK... and not like they did with Baird and NEM. don't ignore canon but don't be afraid to do something different.

On no.

Mirror TNG voyages back and sideways into the NUTOS Sequel to kick the shit out of nuKirk for some reason?

Obviously to stop nuKirk before his first cross over into he Mirror universe because this ISS Enterprise 1701 - D was protected somehow to renovation to their time line by some space time event oddity, which dominoed into the fall of the Terran Empire decades before what mirror Picard calls the present.

These things write themselves.

I'd prefer more TV out of these people rather than another crappy movie.

TREK has 3 real dud movies...how many episodes were duds in the modern era of star trek..and you want more TV after how it all ended...

Movies are the way to go...and aiming for the young people is the way it is...we will have a hit movie next year and many TREK fans will hate it for various reasons... but oh well..out with the old and in with the new..

:guffaw:

But seriously, I don't see this happening. I'd love a good movie with the TNG characters any day, but Trek is heading in a new direction with the upcoming movie and I doubt they'll revisit any of the old series soon. As mentioned it might also be confusing to have two different Trek movie series parallel. A tv movie might avoid that, but I guess the typically high budget scifi films need would only be sensible if the movie is showing in theatres.

IMHO, TNG is so much more successful as a serialized TV show than as feature films because fans enjoyed the ensamble cast. The films focused too much on just Picard, Data, and the antagonist de jour and the other characters suffered. TOS has always been about Kirk, Spock, and Bones with the others clearly secondary characters, and that works fine in films. In addition, I agree that having both TOS and TNG at the theatres is not a good idea. However, TNG MFTV miniseries could work well. I can easily imagine a four night, 8-hour cable miniseries that includes characters from all three 24th century shows; not all of the characters but one or two from DS9 and VOY and maybe a few from TNG. They all don't need to be working directly together but somehow involved in or affected by the plot. I'm not at all opposed to including characters from the New Frontiers novels in subsequent miniseries. The first miniseries could air over four consecutive nights and then, over the next month or so, replayed on various days in various timeslots to allow for the greatest amount of viewers. Six months after the first is premiered, it could be released on DVD just as the next installment airs. One Miniseries every six to eight months would be great. They could even do a crossover story of some kind with STXII or STXIII.

OOO!

Drew Carey can host a special series of Whose Line is it Anyway where the Casts of canceled TV shows are gathered together to improv out "missing" episodes who's plots and twists are dictated by the audience.

If they do more TNG, then they have to do more Gargoyles, and why the hell hasn't Marina been on Atlantis? I mean it's not like there isn't already an obvious Russian in the cast she couldn't have a prior friendship/relationship with?

And if Pat didn't bring some of the American Dad cast along with him, into a TNG Movie, it would just be a crying shame.

Well why couldn't they continue with Abrams' movies and TNG at the same time? Trek is big enough where I think it would work out ok.

Tng (movies) Ds9 and Voyager were all going on at the same time....awesome times

Well, I guess it's different if you have multiple tv series running simultaneously or multiple movie series. Don't you think for instance it would be quite confusing to the general movie going audience (i.e. the people that do not read bbs's or internet sites about movies, and just go to the theatre, see the movie and be done with it) if in every other Bond movie 007 was played by either Brosnan or Craig? Unless they are marketed not as Star Trek movies, but as either TNG movies or .... (fill in your favourite name for the Abrams movie) movies, with no connection made between the two.

We need a TNG movie that:

  1. Does not involve timetravel.
  2. Does not involve any known Trek Race as the bad guys.

  1. Involves the Ent-E and the Titan working together.
  2. Requires a MEGA space battle that involves a huge Federation fleet that would put the DS9 war episodes to shame.
  3. Introduces a few new characters to replace Ambassador Worf and Data and of course to replace Riker and Troi who will be on the Titan.

8 hours every 6 months??? That's practically a tv show. I think you need to be a little more realistic. A two night 4 hour event is probably the best you can hope for. Honestly, I always thought they should have let Coto and the Reeves-Stevens' do that for the 40th anniversary. I'd still love to see a two night miniseries. I'd probably release it on DVD quickly afterwards like the BSG special.

The real challenge with any kind of miniseries will be the cost of the cast. Frakes, Surtis, Burton, and Dorn would all probably come cheaply. But Stewart will need reduce his salary demands if he's going to be included.

The other question of course is what state all the old sets are in. If they can reassamble the old standing sets cheaply there is a chance. If they need to rebuild all the sets from scratch it will get expensive.

I think it would be better if it dealt with the the Titan more because PS will want an insane amount of money that isn't realistic.

^ The CW really does need a special, or new show...

how about CBS airing it?

A hit on The CW is 3 million viewers, if you don't get at least 13 million on CBS the show is canceled.

I don't see why they can't do a mini-series for TNG and continue the movie series in TOS.
