News FOX selling out to Disney?

Both Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have clearly and definitively said they're done with their roles. It's all about closure and they both have gotten that in Logan and anything else would be superfluous.

Even if this deal is close to happening, why is "the X-Men will be joining the MCU" everyone's FIRST expectation?

There's no reason for Disney, as a corporation, to kill the already-existing revenue stream that is the XMCU, especially not when it has 3 nearly-completed projects in the pipeline.
Which is why I think just making it an alternate universe of the MCU is the best way to handle things. This way we can leave both universes in tact, but can still have X-Men in Avengers movies or vice versa.

I found the quote from Hugh Jackman I was talking about before, and it turns he was talking past tense. So it sounds like even if a crossover happened he might still be out.

I'd go with a reboot, but not a recast if I was Marvel. Keep Fassbender, McAvoy and Lawrence. Find a new Wolverine, though. I guess Turner is okay and I like Hoult.

If this deal goes through, all that is likely to change as far as FOX's television output is concerned, at least in the short term, is that we may see a behind-the-scenes restructuring as to who is in charge of the television studio. Things aren't likely to be cancelled unless they're not performing well, or unless there's a different direction that the network's new bosses, if there are any, want to take the company in.

Which doesn't really mean anything as far as the future of the XMCU goes, because, if this deal goes through, there's nothing stopping Marvel Studios from using X-Men characters into the MCU while FOX - which is very likely going to continue on as a studio under the Disney corporate umbrella - continues with the XMCU.

Well that's something I hadn't considered. And there is precedent, with the use of Quicksilver. However, I can't see the MCU wanting to use the big names like Professor X and Magneto while the Fox series is ongoing because of audience confusion.
