Both Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have clearly and definitively said they're done with their roles. It's all about closure and they both have gotten that in Logan and anything else would be superfluous.
Chris Evans already tweeted a proposal for a buddy movie with Captain America and the Human Torch a la "Planes, Trains and Automobiles".

Which is why I think just making it an alternate universe of the MCU is the best way to handle things. This way we can leave both universes in tact, but can still have X-Men in Avengers movies or vice versa.Even if this deal is close to happening, why is "the X-Men will be joining the MCU" everyone's FIRST expectation?
There's no reason for Disney, as a corporation, to kill the already-existing revenue stream that is the XMCU, especially not when it has 3 nearly-completed projects in the pipeline.
I found the quote from Hugh Jackman I was talking about before, and it turns he was talking past tense. So it sounds like even if a crossover happened he might still be out. Both Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart have clearly and definitively said they're done with their roles. It's all about closure and they both have gotten that in Logan and anything else would be superfluous.
3 words: Avengers versus X-MenEven if this deal is close to happening, why is "the X-Men will be joining the MCU" everyone's FIRST expectation?

More of a Magneto, IMO.Eh, I'd recast. Mark Strong would be a great Xavier.
More of a Magneto, IMO.
As long as the check clears.Yeah, but I'm sure he'd appreciate a bit of against-type-casting.
What would this mean for the orville?
if this deal goes through, there's nothing stopping Marvel Studios from using X-Men characters into the MCU while FOX - which is very likely going to continue on as a studio under the Disney corporate umbrella - continues with the XMCU.
