News FOX selling out to Disney?

What Marvel really needs for their next phase of movies is the FF's villains, especially the cosmic ones. I'd love to see a Fantastic Four series, and with the movie brand so tainted that might be the best bet. The only real issue is the segregation between Marvel TV and the Movies. For that reason alone I think we won't get a series. I could see them introducing the Fantastic Four in another movie, skipping the origin (just a quick flashback) to test the waters for a solo movie.
If they go the TV route they could also intrduce then on AOS first, as recurring characters for a season. They could come into to help out with whatever the big arc is, and they could throw in some references to Reed having some kind of big experiment that he's planning. The season could then end with them disappearing and it turns out that they performed the experiment.

As for the X-Men, my preference would be to bring the current movie universe into the MCU as an alternate universe, that way we could still have crossovers, but we would leave both universes as they are. Kind of like Supergirl and the other Arrowverse shows.
I think Hugh Jackman even said at one point after Logan came out that he would be willing to play Wolverine again if it was an Avengers crossover.

Yeah, the multiverse route occurred to me as a possibility. Probably the only way to bring the two continuities together without undermining either one.

Even if they do go the Multiverse route, I honestly can't imagine Marvel not rebooting the franchise if they were to get the opportunity to get their hands on it.

Marvel will absolutely reboot the X-Men. If this deal does go through, expect to see either a new X-Men movie or one or more X-Men characters appearing in an MCU film probably by 2020, maybe 2021.

What will Disney do with that New Mutants movie if they are planning to rebooting the X-Men?

But that would require a whole new continuity for the X-Men,

Fine by me.

Besides, the MCU has invested so many years in building a universe that doesn't have mutants -- with Inhumans as the only known beings with genetic superpowers -- that the X-Men continuity just wouldn't fit, or would feel like an afterthought.

They said they were going to be exploring new Universes and timelines with Dr Strange and Ant-Man and stuff. Once they get these characters back they can do something to alter time and merge universes so now the MCU has mutants. And the ensuring movies explore the new Universe and how the X-Men can exist in a world where there's more than just Mutants and Humans.

I'd love to see Dales' reaction to this. Guy's probably losing his mind.

Once a movie starts filming, it becomes wait too late to stop the train in motion. A blockbuster movie can have a hundred million dollars in budget, and NOT releasing it is absolute suicide for a studio.

Better to release a movie that flops, at least some money can be made back.

Not releasing it means the studio gets nothing.

Well, at least the hardcore FoX-Men fans can have Logan as their grand distant finale to their X-Verse.

Even if this deal is close to happening, why is "the X-Men will be joining the MCU" everyone's FIRST expectation?

There's no reason for Disney, as a corporation, to kill the already-existing revenue stream that is the XMCU, especially not when it has 3 nearly-completed projects in the pipeline.

Exactly. Once Marvel got half of Spider-man they swiftly got rid of Garfield and searched for "THEIR" Spider-man actor

If Marvel got X-men expect McAvoy, Fassbender and Lawrence to be quietly replaced.

After "Dark Phoenix" that is.

I've always had this idea for Marvel's Fantastic Four. They could be a secret team in the 60's who works with a young Hank Pym.

Years later they're brought back to stop Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom could be setting up his new nation in the crater that was Sokovia.

The U.N doesn't recognize "Latvaria". Doctor Doom threatens the world.

Another thing people are hoping for if Disney buys out Fox is the original cuts of the original Star Wars trilogy.

Marvel doesnt "have half of Spider-Man"; they have a "license lease" on the character cinematically.

Also, thank you for completely ignoring what I said about it not making sense for Disney, as a corporation, to kill an already-existing revenue stream like the XMCU.*

* This is sarcasm, BTW.

As for FF, won't their rights remain with Constantin?

Technically yes, but whatever agreement Constantin has with Fox should transfer with the sale. I can think of no reason they don't play nice with Disney afterwards.

Not sure most of the movie going public cares if its the XMCU or MCU.
Nonsense. Look at how excited people were to see Spiderman in The Aven -- Captain America 3. The movie going public would go crazy to see Hugh Jackman and/or Patrick Stewart show up in Avengers 5.

I don't see Patrick Stewart continuing the role in any case. If marvel were to keep an existing Xavier, it would have to be McAvoy - and, you know, I like him, but no one would scream for joy at the decision.

And Jackman would pretty much have to be a one-time event movie with some sort of explanation for how old he looks - which could still be awesome if done right, but would potentially undercut any idea Marvel might have for how to reintroduce Wolverine moving forward.
