News Foundation Adaptation Series Officially Ordered by Apple

Damn what a great episode, this one had me glued to the screen for the first time this season.

Spoilers from here on

I was not expecting a special forces raid by Hober Mallow in the heart of Empire, that was as unexpected as it was tense. Becky about to rip Day a new one was awesome - Lee Pace's terror acting was amazing ( i would have crapped my pants already if Becky would have been towering over myself).

I guess Day's travel to Terminus won't end as peaceful as communicated judging by the trailer for the season but given how Day and Empire in general are it shouldn't be a surprise. His discussion with Poly led to my favorite line ever from the books and something i took to heart for my personal life - "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent", it was the high point of the conversation between Day and Poly itself. I loved how Day called out Poly about his religion and exposed it for what it is even if Poly denied being a true believer but Poly also getting a dig in with the infamous Warden quote.

What was a nice surprise is that they follow the Demerzel story so early and reveal that she/he/it is the actual power behind the Cleon dynasty and even before. I love that they incorporate the Robot universe into the show, it opens so many long term storylines.

While it may have been jarring to have a sex scene in the middle of a crisis i can understand Constant's horniness  I myself have done some pretty stupid things to get sex and also at the most inappropriate times and places so i'm fully with her plus i find her cute both physically and from a character point of view. I just wonder of her eyes are digitally altered or if that is her natural blue - i don't remember seeing anyone with such an intense shade of blue in their eyes. Just looks gorgeous.

Yeah, we all knew Salvor was not dead but her discussion with Hari and the revelations were awesome, she will no doubt save Gaal from Telem, who, if someone did not get it until now, is in full on cult leader mode. Chilling.

Remind me, someone, how did Salvor know about Hober Mallow? I'm glad my guesses weren't very accurate. The design on
Demezel's box
is a bit of a giveaway as to her likely point of origin.

@EmoBorg

Ahem, perhaps lay off on the spoilers until people in time zones to the west of you have had a chance to watch the episode? M'kay?

It doesn't bother me particularly as I had guessed them as likely possibilities, but it might annoy other people.

For me, a good villain is one who believes he is the good guy and who even justifies his reprehensible actions with reasonable arguments - albeit, from a restricted point of view, perhaps. We are all villains from some point of view, although we find it hard or impossible to acknowledge that fact. Hence Tellem's lecture about consuming other lifeforms - animal or plant - in a previous episode. We feel we need to survive so we do what we must.
I have made the changes accordlingly.

In Gaal's flash-forward, the Mule mentioned Hober Mallow "pierced Empire's hide" (which, until Salvor quoted it, I was sure was a religious allusion and it was "pierced Empire's side").

Goyer offhandedly mentioned that Hari is going to be saved along with Gaal as a result of Salvor's meeting with Dr. Seldon, so if you were starting to think they just gave him a body so they could kill him immediately, don't worry about it.

I suppose Gaal must have told Salvor that obscure detail but why would it resonate enough with Salvor to pass it on?

I did suspect Hari couldn't just be offed like that - it would have been a bold move.
I just don't feel motivated enough to listen to that.

We might be getting the origin story of the Mule. cough....cough....Tellem. Her ability to transfer her conscious and abilities to the next host reminds me of the opening scene of the X-Men Apocalypse movie.
Conscious is an adjective. It's something you can be, not something you can transfer.

I assume consciousness was the intended noun, although it's perhaps inadequate to refer to the complete cognitive faculties, memories and behaviour of a sapient being. In this TV Foundation universe, the transfer is something that can be achieved in several ways, including between different substrates.

She wears contacts. All the Thespin (sp?) characters have them.

good opening, decent showdowns on
Terminus and theDay/Sheldon/Demazel talk.

Yay: Thankfully "real" Harry smashed creepy Ladys head...

is 2.10 is gonna be a coda or reset then?
Dawn Cleo Jrs. betrayal and the bride/empress to be are still unresolved
Dusk Cleo Sr. and empress to be assistant are trapped for now or maybe till they die / forever?
Demazel restaring a Day cleo - facing of with the empress to be?

Tellem Bond apparently not going to be the Mule.

Everyone is going to be very busy next episode. Potentially, everything has gone tits-up on Trantor. If they do follow the general themes in the prequels/sequels to the original trilogy, Demerzel is perhaps eventually going to side with Hari, Gaal and Salvor. The real antagonist will be the Mule. I can't envisage Demerzel uniting with him - no freedom that way.

Looks like Terminus has been… terminated.

A pretty good episode. I’m glad Empire took care of those terrorists. Just one less thing to focus on now.
Now how on Trantor is Harry still alive?

I've lost track.

Is the current Day one of the Cleons - post tampering with the genetic dynasty by the group from the first season, possible shaped by events or just fucking nuts in general? (the first time tied in with Demerzel's comments about trying to influence him)

That smile as the Invictus destroyed Terminus - the guy is totally out of his tree.

Wonder if his memories are still updating to his clone on Trantor because I don''t think it would be safe to decant - better luck with bumping the current Dawn up the line.

This is a guess.

"Physical" Hari is either a clone or a robot.

You can't drown a Robot, and if a clone doesn't have to breathe, or doesn't breath like we do, or has gills, or can turn on and off into a coma or stasis for safety, then he might as well be a robot.

Considering that Hari wound up with this body after hours or minutes after meeting that woman, she either had a Hari Clone on hand, for just in case, or she built a robot in minutes.

Oh.

What if Physical Hari is a very powerful Telepath, and his death was illusion?

In that case then Hari is probably the Mule.
