Forum for haters of JJ's Star Trek

Why is the music still playing after the car has gone over the cliff, it
was established that little dick kirk was playing an MP3...
I agree. I would never watch a film making an egregious blunder such as this. That's an inexcusable continuity error. The guys responsible for this should be fired and then thrown off an airlock with the MP3 still playing as they fly into space.

83.I couldn't find "Red Matter" on wikipedia...
Ouch. That's gotta hurt. There have been blatant cases of phony pseudo-science in Star Trek, but not appearing on Wikipedia? You've got to be kidding me.

Definitely for real.

Wow, 10 threads started by the same 3 or 4 people in one year. I smell a movement!

I find the whole thing absurd. I spend no time at all on those things that I do not like. I cannot imagine devoting so much time on something that I don't like.

You say that now, but in a decade or two when everyone is ashamed of having even seen STXI, most folks here will be claiming they were founding members of that site. :p

And few if any would do that. What’s happening is that people are spending time on something they do like that has been ruined or at least tainted (in their [and largely my] opinion of course). See the difference?

KingDaniel, imagination is overrated, 62 is a classic!
In the end Spock tells Spock, "Put aside your logic" and do what turns you on baby ... F#$% you Spock, I'll keep my logic, and this movie can kiss my ass.
:guffaw:

No.

You just proved that you did with your follow up sentence.

Someone yesterday derailed a thread yesterday about a hat of all things just to chime in that they do not like the new film. So yes, there are a few people who, after 3 years, are still upset over the fact that someone came long and made Star Trek worth watching and successful again.

I'm a card-carrying Abrams basher, but even I can't stand that forum. These guys show no imagination. That list of reasons Trek XI sucks consist mostly of "cameras have no tripods and are held by near-sighted people men with arthritis." There's no mention to the Kelvin's registry. At all.

Isn't what you describe here getting pretty close to zealotry, though?

How is it possible that one story you don't like ruins the larger narrative body of which that story is, by definition, part?

I'm not joining that forum. I liked the reboot, it was a fun film, and they at least tried to respect the past continuity by having Leonard in it as Spock.

I dont-didnt like the movie, but i wouldnt start a web site just to bagged about the director, actors and the movie etc etc.sound lijke that guy is a dickhead himself.

I'm pretty sure that's not why they are upset so perhaps you don't see the difference. Well, it has nothing to do with the length of time people may continue to not appreciate this instalment of ST. I imagine "worth watching" depends on what you consider important as well.

 How could they miss that!

I edited my post to include the words "ruined or at least tainted " which seems more reasonable from my point of view. You must have been quick off the mark. :)

Actually I don't know about zealotry. Is continuing to dislike something any worse than continuing to like it? If doing so destroys your life perhaps. But this is a bit different to being just one (bad) movie in a sequence. For me anyway its different in how it portrays ST and different due to the fact that the old universe is now finished (if not actually destroyed). I.e this is what we will get from now on and by the same people who couldn't grasp all of STs finer points the first time. Personally I will never consider STXI to be good Star Trek but time does take the edge off a bit, you'll be glad to know.

In my opinion there is a difference between loving and hating a movie like Devon and UFO seem to and offering valid and interesting criticism. I think e.g. that STXI is a great movie in virtually every respect, acting, thrill, effects and so on but sucks in terms of story. In other words, it is a great summer blockbuster but a bit too fluffy for a Trek movie.

What’s happening is that people are spending time on something they do like that has been ruined or at least tainted ...

The posters on that board can cry me a river...or kiss my ass, whichever.

They do remind me of Languatron, who eventually banned the whole world from even reading his board.

the same people who couldn't grasp all of STs finer points

Doesn't apply to me.

a bit too fluffy for a Trek movie.
It's as un-fluffy as a two hour popcorn blockbuster can be expected to be.

The substantial, un-fluffy part of Star Trek was provided by the TV series, which have more than two hours in which to explore characters and themes, inbetween the inevitable action sequences. It's futile to expect anything substantial until Star Trek is back on TV.

Until then, enjoy the splosions, and contribute to the future financial success of the movies, which is a prerequisite to Star Trek returning to TV. A second highly successful movie would do a lot to move the ball forward.

Is this for real?

And here are the top 100 reasons why STXI sucks (lots of f-words, very little imagination): http://startrekxisucks.blogspot.co.uk/2009/05/full-100-reasons-star-trek-xi-sucks.html
