Forget the paddle-beat the F*** out of the students

List of US states that allow corporal punishment. Though so, a good chunk of the US still has it on the books.

and it should be used more often, although I'd prefer parents apply this type of discipline. maybe if more parents used a paddle on their miscreant children we'd have less teachers goin' ballistic.

bad behavior in kids today is the result of yesterdays teenagers having kids. they're not ready to be parents, and out of control kids is the result.

all kids need to go through the 'Scared Straight' program.

I think tasering is appropriate.

yeah yeah, the taser. that's the ticket. all teachers should have one.

That's on the verge on changing.

And just as well. Violent punks hiding behind the system may find themselves in the gulags...er...justice system.

"Kids will be kids" doesn't cut it. That stance was never more than apologist bullshit, anyway.

In my district 10 years ago when I was in school, he would have been prosecuted for that. There's no excuse for assault like that from either the teacher or the student.

I remember when my older brothers were in high school, in the 1970's, if a female teacher had a problem with a male student, she'd get one of the coaches. The coach would then take the young man to the locker room, slam him into the lockers a few times, lecture him on respect, and then return him to class.

I'm just saying...
AP-AgScience, freshman summer of '91.

One of the school "badasses" (drug pusher, arrest record longer than my arm, mister I can kick anyone's ass) thought he could take on the teacher. Teach and the kid stepped off school grounds onto the gravel lot next to the building. He gave the kid one punch, then proceeded to beat the living shit out of the boy. Rather than file charges, the boy's father actually thank my teacher for knocking some sense into the boy.

Not saying he was right, by a long shot.

What do you all make of this then?

There is a similar case from the year before.

The courts in the UK seem to be moving towards the consensus that some pupils' behaviour is so criminal that some teachers are pushed beyond reason.

To be honest, I've known and seen students who I sometimes wish would get smacked around. Incredibly rude, incredibly hostile, incredibly offensive and disruptive.
There is alot of truth behind this. I remember one time my mom (who is a middle school teacher) was hit with a chair thrown by one of her students. What happened to the kid? Not much, in house suspension for a week. Anywhere else and criminal charges could be filed but not inside a school

In my school district, and probably in many other places as well, I know that teachers can report a student if they get physically assaulted...but if a teacher fights back, they will probably get sued for assaulting a minor.

Edited to add: Further, it's not like the teacher just attacked. The kid was bullying a mentally challenged kid horribly. That's beyond cruel, and would cause me to kick the crap out of him as well.

That video is appalling and she should get the maximum penalty for it.

My 4th grade teacher (upstate NY ~1967/8) created a police state in the classroom. Designated students wrote out "tickets" for bad behavior and at the end of every week we held a court complete with judge and jury. If you were found guilty the punishment was an hour or whatever... DIAPERED (over the clothes)... in a baby pen.

wtf :wtf:

(I'll take the beating, please and thank you...)

I will. He was right.

Hey I had a senior-lit teacher that did that. Didn't last long, her little 'officers' ended up getting the shit kicked out of them everytime they wrote a ticket and eventually no one wanted the extra-credit that bad.

Yeah, nothing says respect like slamming a kid into a locker.

That's why you have to get the biggest, most intimidating looking students to do it. Sheesh, you'd think most teachers would have realized that. They act like autocrats in most other areas...

No, I don't think so. I'm sure corporal punishment has been made illegal in the US as well as here now. Mind you, we are talking about a state that executes the mentally handicapped, so who knows.
IRC, not all states. I know when my son was enrolled in public school we had to sign a form allowing/disallowing corporal punishment.

I went to a private school that did it. I'm pretty sure public schools still do it here in Oklahoma as well. I remember one day when I walked past the office window and the blinds were open, and a 17-year-old guy was in there bent over the desk getting paddled. It was a pretty creepy scene. Our principal was really paddle-happy. Never had it done myself, and I'm glad. I think it's degrading and weird.

And they wonder why kids grow up into adults with bizarre fetishes.

yeah, well she was too busy trying to get those guys to dress in tights and act out Shakespeare for extra-credit (long, sad, creeeeepy, story)

fire the teacher. the end.

let the kid suffer being known as "the kid that got his ass kicked by a teacher."

bring "shame" back to the school system!

suing the teacher is a joke... really, if she loses her job and any potential to get hired again as a teacher, the damage is done. this kid and the family doesnt need money for his pain and suffering. this kid is not a hero and doesnt deserve anything more than a chance to continue schooling as "boy who curled up into a ball" and a walking reminder to students that adults can kick your ass if you step out of line or not.
