Forget the paddle-beat the F*** out of the students

What do you all make of this then?

There is a similar case from the year before.

The courts in the UK seem to be moving towards the consensus that some pupils' behaviour is so criminal that some teachers are pushed beyond reason.

To be honest, I've known and seen students who I sometimes wish would get smacked around. Incredibly rude, incredibly hostile, incredibly offensive and disruptive.

No, I don't think so. I'm sure corporal punishment has been made illegal in the US as well as here now. Mind you, we are talking about a state that executes the mentally handicapped, so who knows.

IRC, not all states. I know when my son was enrolled in public school we had to sign a form allowing/disallowing corporal punishment.

Good definition of the paddle above.

But it is/was used to give a couple of swats to the butt as a punishment for misbehavior.

I've always wondered why the "profession that lost it big time" and gave us the term "going postal" was postal workers when teachers manage to keep it together with a few glaring exceptions.

Honestly? Not surprised. Teachers need more tools for keeping troublemakers under control. There are times when detention doesn't cut it and suspensions are just rewards for some slack-off kids. Doesn't have to be PHYSICAL punishment; just something that'll make kids sit up and take notice.

I suppose electro-shocks would still be considered physical punishment.

The teacher deserves whatever punishment she gets. Regardless of how the kid was acting, physically assaulting them is far beyond any reasonable response.

There is alot of truth behind this. I remember one time my mom (who is a middle school teacher) was hit with a chair thrown by one of her students. What happened to the kid? Not much, in house suspension for a week. Anywhere else and criminal charges could be filed but not inside a school

What happens if she gets no punishment. Does she deserve that?

No, she deserves punishment. What I meant was that I have no objections on the basis of severity. If she has to do jail time because of it, so be it.

But she already lost her job and her license, right? That's something.

That's on the verge on changing.

And just as well. Violent punks hiding behind the system may find themselves in the gulags...er...justice system.

"Kids will be kids" doesn't cut it. That stance was never more than apologist bullshit, anyway.

In my district 10 years ago when I was in school, he would have been prosecuted for that. There's no excuse for assault like that from either the teacher or the student.

I remember when my older brothers were in high school, in the 1970's, if a female teacher had a problem with a male student, she'd get one of the coaches. The coach would then take the young man to the locker room, slam him into the lockers a few times, lecture him on respect, and then return him to class.

I'm just saying...

These are the mistakes this teacher made:

1. Never allow students to have their cell phones on them.

2. She should of used the desk as a weapon, by simply kneeing the student in the mid-section, the kid would buckle, then slam that desk into the kids throat, tightly securing him in the corner, then unload your "haymakers".

3. Obviously the teacher was infuriated butonce she let her emotions get the better of her, she wasted so many good opportunities to really "teach the kid a lesson". Hold back, measure the distance then unload.

4. Why pursue punching the kid on the ground, it tires you out and give kids the opportunity to wedgie you. Instead, let your boots do the talking.
