Forget about the premise for a minute and think of the crew...

Agreed on all count. Maybe his old relatives may call him Marcuzzu (Lil' Marco in Sicilian), much to his desperation. ;)
Nah... His mother will be the Vulcan and no self-respecting Sicilian Man would use a silly little nickname like that for his son.
I dunno, actually people from Sicily use nicknames all the time, especially among families. My granddad used to called my uncle Francesco with the nick Cicciuzzu well through adulthood. But your mileage may vary.

Yes, I get that. I just suggest to give resolution to her mysteries, at least over time.
That is what normally happens in these situations...
Oh, I've read too many fan-fiction not to know how things can go wrong! :rommie:

Science Officer/Ops Manager – Kyla Lucretius
Ship’s Counselor – Ensign Karen Beck
Shouldn't them have trill and betazoid names respectively?

I did come up with the name Invicta independent of some RPG game. I first found the name while reading a Wiki article for an old car from Buick. It looks like name might be making a comeback too. That would make Buick an excellent sponsor if this idea became a TV Show or Film.
Well, it was the name also of British vessels and the plain Latin word for "undefeated". (not to mention a very popular brand of backpacks in Italy). Still, it's a very strong and good name for a Star Trek ship. I wouldn't hold your breath for sponsors, too.

Suggestions are welcome. I got those last names from an ancient greek philosopher/scientist and a famous headshrinker. They seemed like a good fit to me.

Well, the name has been around but, so was Enterprise. There have been at least 8 different U.S. Navy vessels with that name alone. No matter what, Invicta stays. That name is just too damn cool. I'm surprised it hasn't been used in the canon already...

Well, Kyla Lucretius and Karen Beck are obviously human (female) names. I would find it odd that non-human characters had human names. Wouldn't you find weird a klingon named Steven? I usually think that random (but pronounceable) strings of syllables work best as alien names.

Oh yes, I absolutely agree. It should stay. It's an very apt (and kick-ass) name.

What, the cast not stick-up-their ass Starfleet type enough? I know making the characters more casual and giving them clashing personalities is a common move in Trek parodies, but you know, it's also a good move if you're playing it serious.

Annoyingly I did that for a writing pass time and everyone who read it liked the those elements. No one was an obvious hero, no one was perfect. It's kind of Lost-ish thinking about it in the sense that in Lost Jack, Sawyer, Locke aen't heroes but they find themselves in a situation where thay haveto act the part.

Though if I was ever delusional enough to hand it to a publisher or producer they'd hate it as it's probably too far removed from Trekness. But I think it needs a shakeup, less heroics and more 'real' people. Just something to make it appeal to more than the exsisting fans who'll watch regardless (which I think it's safe to say the movie will be doing).

Though... DS9 was my favourite so I'm probably biased.

I'm just tired of seeing 'Roddenberry-perfect' Humans. I doubt any of Kirk or Picard's crews were really so perfect anyway. They were just acting like competent professionals. My crew will act like that too when they are on the job. Off-duty will be a little different. Also, since the Captain and Security Chief are both Former Intelligence officers, it's only natural that they might have a darker worldview. Someone like that will act accordingly...
