I just binge watched the Show "Forever" on CW Seed. I was disappointed to see that it was cancelled after one season. I thought it was pretty good, the "Sherlock Holmes" vibe it had going, but I have to confess, the main reason I watched it was Alana De La Garza. In a word...Gorgeous. It was her facial expressions and her eyes that drew me in. Sorry it was cancelled.

My reason to watch it was Ioan Gruffudd He was supposed to come to a German convention and I figured, better to get to know him now, not that I afterwards regret not taking a picture with him. I somehow have managed to not come across him so far, so "Forever" was my introduction. Sadly he cancelled the con but by the time I already was hooked on the show.

I also really loved the series. All of the characters in it. The friendships, the camaradery, the humor. I loved how it combined past and present. A friend said they stole that from "Highlander" and was not impressed, but I've not watched that and didn't care. The episodes made me feel good at the end, the last show that had managed that was "White Collar", so if you don't know that, I want to recommend it.

I also enjoyed the show. De La Garza has seemed very wooden in other roles, but by the end of the first season, she was very human in the role. But the main reason I kept coming back was Gruffudd. He played the role perfectly: someone who carries all the knowledge of the past, but isn't arrogant because of it.

You know what else I liked about the show? That it was not the typical "will they / won't they". So many American shows always like to drag it out forever. Yes, there were some hints, but mainly those were two broken people, not ready yet for a new relationship.

But they had a beautiful friendship and worked well together, and had each other's back. I really did like that as I am not someone trying to ship everyone with everyone.

Not like in Arrow, where the Felicity and Oliver plot took over with them talking boring relationship stuff and fighting with each other all the time instead of him fighting the bad guys, and therefore destroyed the show in many fan's eyes. That's what I mean. The main story still was about the case of the week. And she was a police woman first, and a love interest second. I don't mind some personal stuff woven in between, just don't make it the main part of the story.

I thought this was an excellent series with a great deal of promise. Intriguing premise, interesting characters, decent writing, good (at worst) acting. I wasn't the least bit surprised when it was canned - it wasn't average enough to survive - but I was disappointed. I wanted to know more about these people and what would end up happening to them. Forever was the first show in quite some time I could say that about.

Agreed. There was clearly something going on between Henry and Jo, but it wasn't the focus. And I agree absolutely that neither of them was ready for anything more than a friendship. Too many shows set up characters with awful things in their (recent) pasts, then promptly ignore all of it and have them jumping into a relationship / bed almost immediately. Forever's writers actually seemed to remember the back stories of the characters and had them behave believably as a result, which is unusual.

That. You said it so much better than I.
The writing felt consistent from week to week. Often when you have different writers, the characters change each week and forget what they said last time. We also had that a lot with Malcolm Merlyn in Arrow and it got tiring in the end.

I also really loved the relationship between Henry and his "dad". So many beautiful scenes. They had great chemistry.

And yes, Ioan Gruffudd was...err...not unappealing, either.

If you want to see a complete different side of him, I followed him over to "Liar". It was a bit bonkers but I still loved it.

And I am looking forward to "Harrow" where he also plays a forensic pathologist with a secret in his past, the trailer looks very intriguing. Maybe, if we close our eyes, we can pretend that Henry now goes under the name of Daniel and moved on to yet another life.

And if you like men in uniform then check out him being young in "Hornblower", all movies can be found on youtube. You know, I read all the time that Kirk was like Hornblower in space, but never had seen the original. Watching this now, I certainly can see the comparison in the characters.
