For those who did not like Star Trek Into Darkness...

when did the film start falling apart for you.?

I know not all people disliked the film but for those who did, when exactly the the film start to go wrong for you?

For me, It was when Kirk looses his captiancy and gets it back in 1o minutes. I really did not like that, it felt as if Orci and the other writers were writing a fan fic film unlike an actual script because we had heard prior that some fans complained about how kirk got the captaincy too easily and even if he did, they did not need to make him loose it only to get it back in 10 minutes, they could have just left him as captain and have him prove why he is worth the captain's chair. Kirk loosing his captaincy was to much fan service.


the second part is when spock and uhura get into a fight about their relationship, it felt rushed and way too squeezed, films like star wars, the marvel films and even star trek 2009 has proven that you can give a romance its own space and time to have a moment instead of forcing it on a way to mission, it felt too out of place and random.Spock was right , it would have made better sense if they had talked about it in private.


I did not like...my name is Khan, they should have left him as John Harrison. the mystery box fell flat and finally the biggest let down was the reacting of spock's death from wrath of khan and spock crying like a baby and screaming KHAN'S name. It was a bit embarrassing to watch.

I just saw Jurassic world and I loved the film. one of the reason why I loved the film was because the writers were able to pay homages to the classic first film in a way that was not to over the top, cheesy or cliche like we saw in into darkness when kirk dies which was a tirbute or a hormage to spock's death in wrath of Khan.

So to me this were the biggest let down of the film, I can also add bonus point of how carol was a pointless character, bones is too angst just giving just one liners.

I liked into darkness a lot better than 09, but the whole Nabiri arc was a huge disappointment the first time I saw it. The stupid decisions being made on the planet were pretty bad, but not too relevant to the plot, so I could overlook them. When Kirk was demoted I first thought 'Yes, they're actually going to address the stupid shit they pulled in the last movie', but then they completely ignored their own setup and I was massively disappointed. Still, though, most of this movie was at least fun. The plot has some issues in the middle, but it's compelling despite it's flaws, so it's really only the beginning and the end that drags it down for me. "Khaaaaan!" was just so idiotic. Eliminating that line would've already improved the movie by leaps and bounds. And the magic blood storyline was weak and uninspired.

Well, after I was very disappointed with Star Trek 2009 I did not have to many expectations about Into Darkness. I did not even want to see it. The chance to watch it presented itself to me on a plane (long flight - and a lot of boring movies to select from). So I thought "whatever, lets check it out - it can't be worst then the first one..." And I must say, it was better then what I had feared. It really entertained me. And approaching it from an angle that it was only a random SciFi flick and not a Star Trek movie (or a movie of the Star Trek how I understand it), I actually liked it. It was exciting and fun to watch until.... that scene in the Warp Drive. Kirk fighting with those hoses... A similar scene ruined MiB2 for me, when Agent K did pretty much the same. I couldn't believe, they used this absolutely absurd and fake looking hose gag in a 250 Million Dollar movie.
Otherwise I thought it was ok. But it'll still won't end up in my DVD collection.

I like 09 way better. 09 is one of my top 10 sci fi films but yes the opening scene with the Nabiri was not all that good and was just too much comedy, which is a shame because the opening of star trek 2009 when george's kirk dies is one of the best opening in film for me and it was so intense and emotional to see kirk born and George die, so to have into darkness have an opening that was purely comedy was a let down.

I agree with you on the kirk's demotion thing, too much fan service . they should have kept him as captain and have him prove his worth and the khan thing was just not good. there was no need for kirk to die like spock did in WOK. it did not have the same emotional weight of spock's death and no need for the Khan scream too. it was awkward but overall the film is still okay but it could have been way way better.

Star Trek 2009 set my expectations pretty low - not necessarily in a bad way but more in a 'okay, let's hope for a decent space action film' and that's pretty much what we got... for the first two thirds. For me personally it fell off a cliff with the Khan reveal. I like Cumberbatch, I like Khan, and I don't mind any so-called 'controversary' regarding the casting. I just think it was so poorly handled and the whole third act was far too smug with generous leaps in logic required. I'm also already sick of Spock hulking out two films in a row. Again, for me personally, I like Spock because he's [for the most part] emotionless. You make him a raging moron and he becomes generic angry action movie guy. And why is it always anger? If we must have Spock displaying emotion why not happiness or sadness? I know the answer - because angry smashy fist fist is 'kewler'

My thoughts exactly. I was really hoping that Harrison would not turn out to be Khan. And the TWOK death scene rehash was the lowest point of the whole movie.

When I first saw Into Darkness, the revisiting of some TWOK stuff did kind of throw me for a loop, but didn't really kill my enjoyment of the overall film.

When I saw it for a second time on the big screen, I enjoyed it much more fully, and now, honestly, I have no problem with the film.

For me, STiD started falling apart after I put the Blu-Ray™ disc in the microwave oven. Seems like the plot won't hold up when it is exposed to that kind of scrutiny.

I did not like "my name is Kahn," when it is his title. I also felt Quinto's "Kahn" scream could have used a few more takes. Beyond that, it was a fun, fun movie that borrowed elements from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and various Star Trek plotlines. Went to see it three times. Best time I had in the theatre that whole summer.

This is why we can't have nice things

Many who didn't like the film, specifically pointed at Nbiru and said they would've enjoyed the film if it was all like that, that it was the only part of the film they enjoyed. Yet, there's already two posts out of 15 that say that was the worst (or one of the worst) parts of the film. It just isn't possible to please everyone in Fandom. Everyone has a different definition of "Star Trek". No Matter what they do, there are always going to be fans who's sensibilities were offended. Put in Fan Service, you get your fans who are offended by that, don't put it in, you get your fans who are offended by that. Put in Comedy, you get your fans who are offended by that...

I've enjoyed both films, and am looking forward to the 3rd one. I probably would've preferred John Harrison wasn't Khan, but, it didn't ruin the movie for me in any way, and I still don't understand how the homage Death scene (as small as it was) is pointed at as ruining the film by many

I loved the first movie more but I don't dislike stid. I actually think it was a good movie..until he said he was Khan and Spock asked Uhura to contact Spock Prime
I think the second part of the movie has problems and I feel like they missed a lot of opportunities. Also, all the talk about 'family' but there is no moment really like that. For instance, I wish the whole crew was there when Kirk woke up. Him thanking Spock only pretending he was the one who saved him (thank you Bones for getting real) is disappointing because it really took everyone's effort especially Bones and Uhura. Spock actually almost died if it weren't for Uhura and then he would have killed Khan if Uhura hadn't stopped him.
I hope that the new movie makes the kirk/spock friendship less forced and pretentious. We know it's iconic but they are not the same people let them be.
At this point, I honestly genuinely buy the kirk/uhura friendship (super underrated IMO) more.

I like when they have different dynamics. For instance, I liked the first scene where Spock, Uhura and Sulu are in the shuttle and Uhura is comfortable being affectionate with Spock with Sulu there because probably the crew knows about their relationship. In fact, when they have to leave Spock in the volcano Sulu tells her "I'm sorry Uhura". It's subtle but it is the kind of little things that hint they are all a little family now, beyond being just officers.
Also the scene where the crew worries for Bones and the way Uhura interacts with Kirk suggests she knows he's his friend and she's there for him in case something happens to Bones.

Man of steel left me mixed. although, I have come too appreciate the film more as my dislike for the marvel cinematic films grows daily but sometimes it felt as if I enjoyed man of steel more than into darkness in the summer of 2013
