For those who attend conventions, boy do I have an article for you...

Re: For those who attend conventions, boy do I have an article for you

Staying away from those involved with JJ Abrams' Trek would be a good way to stay healthy.
I would bet just hanging around Zoe Saldana is a big enough risk of catching an STD.

Seriously, how many convention attendees have ever actually been able to make out with a hot chick dressed like Sailor Moon (or any one else, for that matter)? And if the opportunity was to actually present itself, who could afford to turn her down just because she was sick? I'm just saying.

I've never in my life come down with con lurgi. I hear people do, though. I think I'll let my immune system and a couple of weeks workth of echineaca do battle for me.

Hahaha, that was cute. :) I'll have to remember that! I've never been to a convention, but I plan on starting to fill my summers with them next year. :D

You should definitely look at some of the articles on my blog. There are some tips about food, and some articles about large cons vs small cons, etc.

Yeah, I have run into a lot of immensely talented people in the process of doing this blog.

I have been going to cons for over 30 years and I always plan it well. I sleep in the mornings, I have a hearty lunch and dinner, I try not to be intimate with hot ladies with colds or flu plus I take a couple extra days off to catch up on rest.

I definitely recommend taking at least a day to rest when you get home if you traveled for a con. I always take the Tuesday after Dragon*con off to "recover."

I dunno about you, but I see a LOT of hot girls are cons.

Re: For those who attend conventions, boy do I have an article for you

^^^^Yes, the hot girls are definately there. I'm just wondering how many of the guys going would actually have a chance to make out with any of them.

I'm just saying.

Heh. I dunno. Being a geeky girl myself, and knowing quite a few, I'd say there's a half decent opportunity. ;) You boys need to give yourself some credit!

Re: For those who attend conventions, boy do I have an article for you

Only ever had it once, but it was special - a lot of folk I know at that convention were sick over the weekend, and some after, and we suspected it was the hotel food, and since I was at the overflow hotel, I hadn't eaten it, but...

There was a girl taken ill in the autograph queue, and I helped her out, and in the process, she threw up on me. I got her out, got her sat down, got a dopey member of the hotel staff to run and get her a glass of water, then went upstairs to the gents to clean myself off as best I could, and go through each page of the girl's Serenity comic that Jewel Staite had just autographed, trying to rinse them off. I was fine - until I got home the next night, and the projectile vomiting started. Seriously, it was like something out of the Exorcist. Fortunately, I was dating a nurse at the time, and he totally looked after me.

Hmm, yeah - do remember another time, way back, was a bad boy, ended up making out with two guys in one night and my nose piercing getting horribly infected afterwards. Even as an atheist, I do remember thinking that was kind of a punishment...

Sleep deprivation, though - that's fun. It was the Prometheus con in Glasgow, about four years ago, I was in the hotel bar until 5am every morning, with my buds, but they could sleep in, whereas I had 9am duty so had to be up at 8am every day. Three hours sleep, twenty one hours up, for three days. I have huge gaps in my memory of that weekend, simply because I wasn't getting enough sleep to process all that happened in the day, and when I got back home Monday night, having cried constantly for the train journey (I was an emotional and physical wreck by that point), I started hallucinating, but I was too hyped up to sleep until my normal time that night.

Good times...

Re: For those who attend conventions, boy do I have an article for you

I've never gotten sick at a convention...well, some of those fat starpigs and granny-vulcans make me sick but I digress...

In fact, I'll never forget the disgusting visage of a huge starpig buttcrack staring me in the face before the lights went down for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country back in 1991. This thing lumbered into the theatre and could barely squeeze itself down the aisle before bending over and giving me and my young wife a ghastly view upon selecting a seat in the aisle in front of us...bending over and showing the Grand Canyon of buttcracks...

It was a disgusting chasm of starpiggedness!

I'll be forever scarred from that experience -- let me tell you!

Anyway...yeah...starpigs make me sick.

Never been sick at a con though...aside from close encounters of the starpig kind...
