Hello, guys.

One of my buddies on Sci-Fi Meshes.com has been working on a GREAT rendition of the Cheyenne-Class, and he said that he'd love to get your feedback on his work, if you'd be up for taking a peek at his thread.

I have to say, I'm VERY impressed with what he's done, and it looks totally TNG. :)

Anyway, check it out if you wish, and feel free to let him know what you think!

What, one actually needs to become a member of SciFi-Meshes.com just to view the attached image files?

Yes. I detest running into that because I have to remember to go login and come back to the link someone's given me. :scream:

It's even better than you guys think...

Once you log on and get inside, there are 48 WIP images scattered among 23 pages of BBS posts...

For those who are members of Sci-Fi Meshes.com, once you log in, if you select "Remember Me", you will always remain logged in, and will not have to do so again, unless you delete your cookies.

I'm registered there, and post there, semi-regularly.

Having you register before you can download art is a way to protect people from doing a Google search and just easily stealing artwork. It's designed to protect the artist.

I can't agree more. Some people only post in protected forums because they have had their art stolen.

I'm sorry, but if you think that's lame that's kind of ironic: at this forum the better projects have a lot of pages and require you to browse them for a lot of WIP images as well...

I don't think he was calling it lame. I think he was actually impressed by the fact that there were so many images available in the thread.

Pretty cool. With a bit more hull texturing and painting, it should look like a real TNG ship. On a lot of the early kitbash ships, there wasn't a lot of time to flesh out the surfaces, but the fun thing is that anybody can play with it.

Ah, Rick, you know that you're dealing with a crowd that demands every last model detail be 'canon', right? :) If it's not a perfect match of what was on screen, it doesn't count!

I'll give you what I said over on the Drex Files in my best Laurence Fishburne/Morpheus voice: “Trek is what is in your own mind, following a set of stylistic rules. There is no canon. If I modify a nacelle component to perform a more sensible function, can it not be so? If I create a new deflector dish using these rules, is it not as valid as the dish that came before? Do you think that is a real starship you’re building, in this place?”

Well, I was being lightly snark, though there's sadly some truth in what I say (reference a certain thread in Tech). But, you're right, modifying art, updating graphics, etc, is something we do all the time (both of my sites are testaments to that fact) - and we're not dealing with reality here to begin with, just a presenation of a fictional universe. The goal, in that sense, is just consistancy... and in that score, I yield to the guys who made the damn things in the first place. :)

We had a saying back at the studio - "It's a show, it's a show, it's a show..." and that usually kept us sane. Personally, I like discussions about how to make things different, make things better, make things new and interesting, regardless of what was committed to film or videotape or DVD over forty years.

Well, for my fandom stuff, I have a simple rule "Be as consistant as possible while recognizing that you're dealing with a Hollywood franchise." Yeah, good luck with that, I know, and Trek is one mammoth of a franchise to deal with, but, at least I don't have to worry about my income and royalties relying on any of it. :)

BEST.
POST.
