For Ira Behr Fans: 4400's 4th season to start on June 17th

When/why did Rene Echevarria and Robert Hewitt Wolfe leave the series? Were they like Michael Piller and DS9? (establish and then hand over the reigns?)

Robert wasn't one of the developers, just someone who was brought in to help by his old colleagues. He only did one script in the first season. I gather he's back on the show this season, though I think it may be in a freelance rather than staff capacity. He's mainly busy with The Dresden Files these days.

So the Promicin debate/promotional blitz for the new season kicked off yesterday. There is a network of in-universe sites with stories, videos, advertising, propoganda, political speeches, Collier blogs, all sorts of stuff. Here are the main sites... I've also found some videos on YouTube by searching Promicin that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Obviously, if you aren't caught up through Season 3, spoilers abound.

Any creative types going to be contributing their characters or creations to the world? They are taking stories, videos, Pro and Anti Promicin posters and debating in-character on the forums. Very cool stuff.

If anybody finds anything else in-universe or creates anything that gets linked... post it and share! I'm working on an idea for a "power" and video script now. ;)

Nice promotion there. It was nice to read this as well:

"Much like Deep Space 9, Millennium and Battlestar Galactica, The 4400 is socially conscious and socially relevant, yet doesn‘t get the credit and appreciation among the mainstream that it deserves for its excellence. Scenarios, characters and their interactions are well conceived and portrayed authentically to cultivate a nuanced sense of realism, infusing believability into the incredible."

Four of my favorite shows ever! All right!

A little off-topic, although it relates to Ira: does he have a vision problem? He's always seen in the DS9 DVD extras wearing sunglasses. I don't mean any disrespect...

No, that's just his style. Same with the blue beard, it seems to have been because The 4400 shared offices with Viacom suits.

Man, that's gotta hurt the eyes after a while, but at least he looks cool! Love his work!

Oh, I'll be watching. That said, the show is prone to many lapses in quality, as well as suffering systemic faults. The last episode aired had Tom exclaiming "That's revolution!" The Wingnut hysteria peeking out at odd times doesn't help. Since it overlaps with Heroes themtically (now at least) the greater quality of Heroes may make it look bad.

To quote a passage from the article I posted above:

"Written and produced with intelligence, insight and integrity, The 4400 takes the subject matter of enhanced people seriously, and therefore attains a level of excellence and maturity that the similar show Heroes could and should have achieved, but failed miserably. To give you an idea of the difference in quality, The 4400 is to Beethoven what Heroes is to Avril Lavigne. Don’t misunderstand me; I enjoy both. But whereas Heroes is entertaining, The 4400 is interesting."

I couldn't agree more. Great post. I've watched Heroes a few times now and it IS an enjoyable product but it doesn't have the introspection and depth that 4400 routinely exhibits.

Avril Lavigne, eh? An overproduced, yet lacking in soul and depth version of what other perhaps lesser known folks are doing much better and with more authenticity, seriousness and meaning. Sounds about right. :scream:

I'll take 4400 any day. And it's not just because of the DS9 connections. I find the similarly connected Dresden Files ito be merely "Eh." It's the quality of the acting, writing, directing, production and the way they treat the subject matter and characters.

That, and Jeffrey Combs of course. Heh.

Re: For Ira Behr Fans: 4400's 4th season to start on June 1

Yeah, I was glad to read that as well. Heroes is good, but 4400 is better.

Re: For Ira Behr Fans: 4400's 4th season to start on June 1

I will trust my eyes before I trust a quote. Particularly a quote brandished by someone who just Friday picked up season one and two.

I'm already the only person who's said anything specific about the show, the "That's revolution!" line. The reason it's loopy is that powerful as the 4400s may be, most still have multiple connections to the rest of humanity and will help (assuming that any but authority figures are allowed to be true heroes in Behr's universe.) And all of them must sleep, eat, drink and lay themselves open to bombs, poison etc.

Here's a second specific thing. In one episode, Diana would rather die in a fantasy world with Maia. In another episode, she dumps Marco because the sexy thing just isn't happening for her. Forget the question of why a supposedly strong woman is sleeping with someone who doesn't do it for her. None of the female characters is very well drawn in my opinion. Why does this woman who would rather die than live without Maia not bother to rate Marco as Daddy material? Frankly the episode would have made more sense if she told Marco that the boy toy thing was real empowering but Ben could be Daddy.
