maybe the ussr will split up in the final season of for all mankind whenever that is

because the show is basically mostly about how comardes of the soviet union beat the usa in the space race by going to the moon 1st in the early 60s and since then usa and ussr went face to face on the moon then i think in the 90s ussr and usa went to mars

and ever since the early 60s everything in history on earth moon and mars has been and had been altered alot

I'm pretty sure you still will have Muslim extremist though if Russia didn't invade Afghanistan then it is likely that America doesn't help fund Osama Bin Ladin so things would be different in that regards as well. Not to mention less need for fossil fuel means less conflict over oil so that also changes the game as well. Hatred though because of religion is unlikely to change even without these factors. I don't see the Israel and Palestine conflict being much different either.

I also wonder about the IRA. Does the IRA still exist. I am unclear as to what the British have been doing in this universe. I think Princess Diana is still alive though.

Season 2 established that Charles married Camilla in 1981, not Diana.

Margaret Thatcher was killer in the 1984 Brighton Bombing, so we know the IRA did exist in-universe until then.

We know Egypt is a Communist State by 1997, and Season 4 refers to dissidents seizing government buildings in Riyadh.

Problems are not just oil reserves. In fact the problems started when the British in their colonial "wisdom" drew borders on maps without regard for social, religious and cultural differences and split previous homogenous regions artificially and then supported one group over the other creating strife that lasts until today.

Oil just made it worse once the industrial nations discovered their hunger for it, which accelerated the chaos and violence in the Middle East.

I forget when Fusion reactors were invented in the show ( 80s?) but by then the damage was done, the seeds were planted and if the western nation stopped buying oil it would have likely caused more problems just of a different kind.

Then again this is not an alternate history show about a Middle East What if, so the show moved on and didn't explore that.
