Flying Remote Control Enterprise

SGTalon

Cadet
Newbie
Hey guys,

I stumbled on this forum when i found Hal's Life Sized Enterprise on Youtube.

I though you guys might find this cool too.

I have been a closet Trekkie and RC pilot my whole life and got into building spacecraft a couple years ago. Basically i take ship that i love and make them into planes i can actually fly. It is completely awesome!

I have a youtube channel that has all of my videos here:
www.youtube.com/sgtalon

But my latest version is a really awesome scale version of the Enterprise-D. It is so awesome and so many people have been begging me for a kit that i started making the kits to sell. Anyhow here is the video:

And here is where i have a discussion going on about it on rcgroups.com

Hope you guys like it!

If you don't make a Romulan Warbird, and make these ships dog fight, then you have huge issues!

PLEEEEASSSSE!!! Do it! For the love of all that is Trek!

Already have a Klingon Bird of Prey that flies... not as well as the Enterprise though. I designed a Romulan Warbird but i never built it. The curved wings make it harder to build consistently. I agree that the Warbird is awesome though :)

I have been flying my first Enterprise for a couple years now and the newer version here for this whole summer and i have NEVER been tempted to combat it. It just looks too nice.

I do combat with ww2 planes and they get destroyed a lot! It would be a shame to damage this guy. Especially after all of the work i put in to make it look nice.

I am also working on a Voyager and Enterprise-A.
I also built a Defiant but was not stable. It looks good though :)

Sweeeeet! :techman: Looks like you're using the aft edge of the saucer and the aft edge of the engineering hull as your control surfaces? With all those flat surfaces, I imagine it's pretty stable, but it doesn't fly as much as get pulled through the air by the motor, right?

And I have to say, the video of the flying Star Destroyer was absolutely hilarious to me!

We actually have been having a discussion about "lift" when it comes to these flat plate wings.

My opinion on it is that we are not really looking for lift as much as wing area to decrease the sink rate. It really does fly well.

When you slow i down it is definitely flying.

I have been thinking about how hard it would be to make a version that is big enough to put 2 people in it. It is so stable and flies so well that i think it is possible!

all powered flight is "pulled through the air" (or pushed).
even a flat plane generates lift at some angle of attack, airfoils are just better at it.

I liked the R/C foamie of the Ent D,but didn't Tyco come up with R/C models of the Klingon Bird of Prey, and a $200 R/C jet version of NCC 1701 Enterprise?
How come we don't hear of it any longer ?

It's ok I guess, if you want to fly it like an airplane.

This I find even cooler:

Piloting ships (Enterprise, Space Battleship Yamato too - see suggestions links at right) in a more "realistic" manner, ie, like in TWOK.
Now if there was a way to use laser pointers and receivers to have some combat. If that would work underwater.

I have to agree with Wildstar, when you see the underwater models in action it's quite something. They move with more scale speed and grace, rather than darting around wildly.

The strakes/fences on either side of the saucer look like they might fit in with the structure of the NX-01--the rectangular raised section. A propeller in place of the forward sensor maybe?
