Fluctuations in your level of interest for different series?

See, once you get exposed, or over exposed, to a continual set of ideals, it becomes hard to seperate those ideas (fans) from the material their related to. You basically just get aggravated with anything having to do with the series and set out looking for something else. There has to be a middle ground, love it, hate it, gush it, bash it, whatever, just accept that not every person is going to share the same level of passion towards defense/attack that you do, and that sometimes the ones that do eventually grow up, look back, chuckle at themselves for getting so worked up over a show and move on.
Yes. I started with TOS reruns when I was 3 years old. I remember bawling at the end of ST II when Spock died, as a 5 year old. I thought the TOS crew was the be end all for Trek. So when TNG first premiered I didn't care for Picard and company. I was about 11. Over time I grew to like the TNG crew more than TOS. Then DS9 came out. I liked the show but I thought TNG was better until the final season of DS9. By then I knew that DS9 was my all time favorite. The subsequent Trek series did not change my mind although ENT became my third favorite series behind TOS. Oddly enough I can barely stand to watch TNG reruns now.
So if I had to rate my interest now:
1) DS9
2) TOS
3) ENT
4) TNG
5) VOY

Honestly none of the series have a lot of rewatchability value for me - but very few shows do - but at this point I'd probably enjoy even the worst of VOY just from years of Trek deprivation.
I have to agree with this to an extent. S1 and S2 of TNG look so dated to me it is painful. S3 thru S7 look so much better. The costumes got better and the lighting and camerawork became so much more sophisticated.
TOS has always engaged me and I've been watching it for 30 odd years. When I was a teenager and a young adult I was massively active in Trek fandom, similar when TNG arrived. When TNG left the air my interest in it seemed to wane almost instantly and I rarely watch it any longer. I am still interested in chatting about it though, here on the bbs, which is the opposite of TOS. I don't really understand why that is. I enjoyed DS9 immensely towards the end of its run, when it was really into the Dominion war arc. I haven't watched it since its last episode aired here in the UK. Voyager I have never been interested it or watched beyond it being on when others around me have wanted to watch it. I have actually become vaguely interested in trying it again of late. Enterprise I was quite interested it but lost that interest pretty quickly and have never really given it a second thought. Still, how long did it take for me to get vaguely interested in Voyager? 10 years? Maybe in 2018 or so I'll be thinking of picking up Enterprise on whatever media is out there.

Still be watching TOS, though.It's only been a couple of years since I've finished watching my last new episode, so my opinions haven't had time to change too much. I can be in the mood for different series, but my opinions of them aren't likely to waver much over time. If anything, I might think less of certain episodes as my pool of great televised entertainment goes up because I can afford to be more selective.
I enjoy TOS the most, with TNG/DS(/VOY all coming in even in the enjoyment stakes, and Enterprise is the only Trek show i have no interest in.
TOS. Always loved the series and movies, and can stand endless repeats as long as some time elapses between these bouts of viewing. (I include TAS in this.)
ENT/TNG. Enjoy both moderately, but don't particularly care for any of the TNG movies.
DS9. Have seen very few episodes, did not care for the premise of the series. (Maybe I have a pleasant surprise in store!).
VOY. Will watch it if I am stuck in solitary confinement with nothing else to do.

I haven't seen TNG for a while, so I'm not sure how I'd perceive it in terms of being dated, but I have found in the past that whether or not I wanted to watch an episode was directly related to how many times I'd seen it recently; when TNG reruns were on every weeknight, and episode I'd seen more than twice in the preceding six months would often get a pass. There are a handful of TOS eps I also would find myself not wanting to watch, when that series was on continuous-rerun status during the 70s.
These posts express pretty much my exact viewpoint.
I don't get why some fans think it's such a terribly big deal that not everyone thinks "their" show is the Greatest Thing Ever. For me, all the gushing has the exact opposite effect to what such fans (apparently) intend. They're TV shows, not matters of life and death, and giving the impression -- as some fans seem to do - that a TV show is the only thing in one's life that matters isn't a good thing. To each their own, basically.
As for the actual question... I haven't watched much Trek lately (TNG excepted, and my rewatch of that stalled around Christmas), but my level of interest in TOS, TNG and Voyager has remained pretty stable for a long time now. DS9 I enjoyed a great deal until a number of factors (including the aforementioned gushing-type fans) combined to kill my interest stone dead; it hasn't revived. Enterprise I couldn't get interested in at all and I can't imagine that changing, although one never knows.

Well, time allows for some greater objectivity. I was still young when some of these series were running, so at the time the excitement of new episodes was enough to keep me very interested.
TNG was really the first trek I got into. I was still a kid, but I remembered being pretty captivated by it. My opinion of it is still very high, and in retrospect I feel that some of the best Trek came from TNG.
I felt DS9 started slowly, though I was still a faithful viewer. By the time S4 hit, I was really getting into it and it became my favorite trek series. Still is, as a matter of fact. The story arc from the latter seasons was a welcome addition to trek, at least for me. I was hooked, and sad when it ended.
VOY is where there really is a fluctuation in my interest level over time. For its original run, I remember being interested enough to watch it faithfully. I wasn't as into it as DS9, but I certainly didn't miss an episode. Looking back though, I don't feel it has aged well at all. I'm older now, and when I try to look at it objectively, the inconsistency in the writing and the weak casting (relative to previous trek series) makes it hard for me to hold the series in the same regard as TOS/TNG/DS9. It was flashy trek at the time, with effects far superior to TNG and frequent appearences by the Borg (my favorites), and this was enough to keep me looking forward to the next episode. Looking back at the series though, it's really a lot of mediocrity. TOS/TNG/DS9 all had a handful of special episodes that really were something great. Ploughing through the VOY episode list, I can't find a single episode on the level of those series' best.
I was old enough by the time ENT came around to be a little more objective about the series; That is, I didn't force myself to like it simply because it was trek. I did watch it regularly, but unlike previous trek, I didn't go back for repeat viewings. In fact I think the only ENT episode I've seen more than once is Regeneration, because it happens to be on a Borg DVD set I have. The casting was the weakest yet for a trek series, and the writing didn't take the series anywhere interesting until season 3. I have to admit the Xindi story arc was interesting, but because I was a little iffy on the cast, I didn't enjoy it like I would have had the same material been presented through a previous trek series. So my opinion of ENT was not high at the time of its airing, and time hasn't done anything to change my mind.

I'm basically the same when it comes to watching Star Trek.
I'm recently re-watching TNG and I like it as much as I did when I first saw it. In fact, I think I like it even better now!
TOS is still a favorite. I do watch some episodes now and then and I still like them. A little dated in some places but good stories and great characters keeps the series on a high level for me.
I still love Voyager's seasons 1-3 and I still don't feel for watching seasons 4-6 again or watching season 7 which I never watched. Something important is missing in seasons 4-7.
Unfortunately I never had the chance to watch everything of DS9 thanks to stupid policy from the TV stations where I live. I did watch season 1 and many episodes from the other seasons. I still find it a good series and I might buy the DVD:s to watch the whole series from the beginning.
I never really liked "Enterprise", only watched a couple of episodes in the beginning. I might watch it if some station I can catsh will reprise it. Otherwise I prefer watching the other Trek series.
