It seems that a lot of you aren't happy with Stargate Universe. What should the show be doing, or what needs to be fixed in order to make it an excellent series?

1) Kill off Colonel Young and promote Lou Diamond Phillips to full main cast member. Then remodel Destiny's command structure so that it resembles Atlantis. Dr. Rush (who was about ten times more effective in dealing with the Lucian Alliance than Young) is the new expedition leader. Telford becomes leader of Destiny's military personnel and reports to Rush.

2) Rewrite the Wray character so that it becomes more likable. In theory, Ming-Na is a pretty good actress, so I would try to keep her on the show. But the character needs some serious maintenance.

3) Kill off Chloe as well.

4) Focus on blue aliens and obelisk planet aliens instead of Lucian Alliance crap (well, that part seems to be actually happening now... I hope).

Well, I think the show is already good, but I think it could use some changes in the next season. Not improvements, just changes.

1) Get these people on a team! We had the angsty first season where nobody got along. It's time for them to get over their differences and begin working together so I actually know who to root for.

2) Learn more about the Destiny and get more control over what it can do. I want to learn about its mission, and I want them to be able to stop it from jumping if they want. That way there isn't always the silly rush against the clock at the end of the episode. They can even learn to change direction and steer it. I don't care. They're so far away from Earth that it wouldn't even matter.

3) Lose the Ancient stones for a while. I liked that they had contact with Earth in the first season, but I don't think the characters are really going to find their footing and work together until they are truly separated from the people back home.

1. Fire Mullie & Mallozzi
2. Turn on the lights
3. Drop the stones
4. Quit making Greer an absolute asshole or kill him
5. EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE. It's Stargate: Universe, not Stargate: Stones or Stargate: Lucian Alliance

It could be a lot better. Let's have less infighting between the characters and more actual exploration, both inside and outside the ship. Get supply problems addressed. It's getting old to have the ship chronically "low on power" yet people can still run laptops and iPods. Find a way to charge the batteries so they can bring the lights up and quit being so bitchy.

Stop using the stones to send people on boring Earth stories. Use them to bring on interesting guest characters and specialists. I liked the whole blue alien thing. Let's see some more of them--why are they interested in Destiny? And how about them Obelisk Planet aliens? We have all the threads here to build an epic story, let's use them!

Start finding real uses and character arcs for these people or kill them off. Having a glut of bland and annoying characters is weak. Let's dispose of the Lose-ian Alliance morons as quickly as possible.

Lose the goddamn pop music montages.

(1) The show needs to lose the communication stones, for one. It's obvious the writers don't have the discipline to exploit them for their sf potential. Instead, their main function is to allow the writers to tell Earth-based melodrama, especially in the episodes "Earth" and "Life." Cut of the Destiny from that crap and allow the characters to be truly isolated.

(2) Give the Lucian Alliance a believable motivation for wanting to take over the Destiny or jettison their characters and move on, pronto. The ship is a barely-functioning rust bucket several galaxies removed from the Lucian Alliance's territory and with no way to get back to the Milky Way Galaxy. So what gives?

(3) Develop the supporting cast. After an entire season, it's still hard to tell the three stooges apart from each other (ret-conning another 30-something white guy into the supporting cast when they brought Caine aboard wasn't a smart move, either).

(4) Give Greer some consistency and depth or get rid of him. Making the only central African-American character an angry black man is step down for the franchise, even give its usual noble savage shtick. A few episodes have hinted at a more complex character and it's time the show delivered on that promise.

1. Fire Mallozi and most of the old SG writers except for Gero and people who've done good episodes.
2. Better lighting and cinematography and lose the montages.
3. Have the balls to kill off main characters. Have Rush kill Young in order to keep his incompetence from killing everyone and kill Scott by having him try to be a hero and get shot for his trouble.
4. Make Greer less of a crazy angry black guy and give him more contemplative stuff and a bit more humor.
5. Have Eli do something significant with his skills.
6. Make Varro a lead since we're going to lose Lou Diamond Phillips.
7. Explore Destiny and explain why the fuck the Alliance even bothered to go there in a way that isn't pants on head retarded.
8. Never ever bring up the people from Faith again or if it has to be done, show that they are dead.
9. Make all the female characters useful and don't make them whiny bitches or whores.
10. Have Rush become the leader because he's competent and stop making him into a villain. Explore his problems, yes, but don't make him out into a total dick.
11. Explore the positive aspects of the characters more.
12. Get some good fight choreography for the space battles. SG-1 and SGA were lightyears ahead, never mind BSG.

Cancel SGU, wait a year create a new show that a hybrid of SG1 and SGA. Basically Atlantis is back on Earth it is the new SGC. Atlantis still has all 3 ZPM's we find out it can dial to a few other neighboring galaxy gates besides Pegasus (Andromeda, etc..). We explore worlds in these new galaxies and discover new threats. Also add that the stargate has been made public so no need for atlantis to keep cloaked, this open up some new earth based problems too.

To be honest, that sounds substantially worse than SGU.

Having a little bit of familiarity with both SG1 and SGA, I'd say that that's a better idea than this show, which seems to be nothing but a rip-off of BSG mixed with Space: 1999 and Star Trek Voyager, and not as good as either program (especially Voyager.) I'll go further than that and say that it needs to have elements of the animated Stargate series as well, which was a great program in concept but lousy in execution.

Kill off Lt. Scot and Chloe. Keep TeaBag and Redhead LA chick(She was Anna on Supernatural). Have them find something useful on a planet occasionally. Make some systems in the ship actually work.

-Fun and humour. Come on, that's what made the Stargate franchise appealing to begin with. Doing a series without fun and humour is like doing a Star Trek without optimism.

-If we're going to bring characters from the other Stargates, can we have them acting in character? Stern and serious Jack O'Neill and Covert Ops Daniel Jackson is not in character to how they were in SG-1.

-Use the stones in ways that are relevant to devloping the plot and bring the gang home. Not use it to bang your wife, or go to the bar with yor friends.

-Drop the idea of Rush having a shady hidden agenda. It adds nothing.

-Make Greer something other than an insane psychopath who'll hand anyone's ass to them if they question his beloved Colonel Young. Actually, they nearly did this in Lost when they explored his backstory, then destroyed it in Pain when they had him hunting Rush and Wray around the ship bent on killing them.

-Find better villains than the moustache-twirling cliched Lucian Alliance.

I think the show is okay. It's not as bad as I expected but I agree with the sentiment that it's too much trying to be BSG and not doing that very well.

It's not like SG-1 or SG-A which for those missing it, is the entire point. This is meant to go somewhere different. But I'd like to see that different be somewhere a little better lit with a more likable and a bit smaller cast. It's large enough I probably wouldn't notice a few deaths of semi-regulars or even regulars.

Some of the cast I actually like well enough; Rush, Johansen, Scott, Greer (who does need an attitude adjustment upwards or he'll just be the token asshole) and surprisingly enough, Telford. I wasn't sure how Lou Diamond Phillips was going to do given his rocky past but he's shown he can still act.

The rest, including Eli, Young and Wray are bordering on my "die already" list as they're being horribly misused and/or underused.

SGU is a near total disaster. Fire the writers and producers (that should have been done long before they had the chance to create SGU - it was obvious the Stargate writers/producers suck midway thru SG-1). Fire all the actors except the fat nerd. Build a show out from there - I have no idea what kind of show, premise, cast, etc, but anything has to be better than the muck they're churning out now.

First, a moratorium on emo pop ballads and montages at the end of episodes. GAH.
That should be a blanket rule across the entire TV industry.

I don't think SGU is horrible, it's better than some of the other crap I see on TV. How to improve it?

1) Begin phasing out the old SG writers into cushy production gigs or put them on the SG1/SGA movies, where their writing is appreciated.

2) Make Young act like a full-bird Colonel or kill him off. His constant angst is not becoming of a man of his rank and it needs to go.

3) Stop Eli's whining. I can see the value of a character from outside of the classified world and his observations, but every episode he is bitching and I disagree with him 95% of the time. He needs to understand it's a military situation and they are stranded and that not all of what he thinks is right will actually worked.

4) Do something interesting with Chloe or kill her off.

5) I agree with an earlier poster that said make Ming-Na nice and likeable. I couldn't agree more. I've been one of her biggest critics, but she is like Eli. She needs to realize, at least in my opinion, that the military are best equipped to take care of this situation.

6) Develop your main characters before you add on a plethora of secondary ones. I like Brody. I like Lt. James. But you need to develop your main characters before you start adding on secondary ones.

7) Finally, another thing I agree with earlier is to make the crew come together as a team. How long can these people be at each others throats?

Why does everyone always want the cast killed off? That never solved anything on Atlantis, so why do you all think it would achieve anything here?

Less stupid sexual bullshit.

I'd have the ship swing by Earth and pick up some actors who can actually act and have them play some characters that aren't horrible. Enterprise added Manny Coto to the writing staff for season four. He was great, however the actors and characters were so bad from the beginning the show was still unwatchable.

I like the show...and the last thing I'd want is to make it more like Atlantis. Atlantis was so paint-by-number at the end it's not even funny.

If I wanted it to be like SG-1 I have a rack of DVDs to watch SG-1.
