latest

1. (1.19) "Duet" - Deep Space Nine's executive officer and former Bajoran freedom fighter, Major Kira Nerys, suspects a visiting Cardassian to be the notorious war criminal Gul Darhe'el, butcher of Gallitep Labor camp.

2. (1.01-1.02) "Emissary" - Starfleet officer, Commander Benjamin Sisko arrives at the newly freed Deep Space Nine station to command a joint Federation/Bajoran force. His life is changed when a wormhole is discovered near the station, and he is declared the Emissary to the Prophets by a Bajoran priest.

3. (1.20) "In the Hands of the Prophets" - In this charged season finale, friction escalates on the station when the Federation and Bajoran inhabitants clash over Federation schoolteacher Keiko O'Brien's lessons that the aliens in the newly discovered wormhole are aliens - a topic that the Bajorans find blasphemous.

4. (1.08) "Dax" - The station's science officer Lieutenant Jadzia Dax finds herself accused of a murder committed by her symbiont in another lifetime.

5. (1.05) "Babel" - A mysterious virus plagues Deep Space Nine, causing speech distortions and death.

What are your top five favorite episodes from Season One?

From S1, in no particular order:

Emissary
Battle Lines
Progress
Duet
In the Hands of the Prophets

It's a much better season than I initially gave it credit for.

From the title, as I clicked in I was thinking "Heck, I could name five faves just from season one alone..." Little did I know! :D

My top five from one are Emissary, Captive Pursuit*, Progress, Duet, In the Hands of the Prophets.

*I think I'd actually vote for Battle Lines, but in the interest of making my list slightly different from Vger23. :)

That’s REALLY weird, because I originally had Captive Pursuit on my list!

Hah, great minds! I think if I'm honest I enjoy Captive Pursuit more, but I like Battle Lines for the Kira stuff.

Emissary
Past Prologue/Move Along Home
- I can't decide between these two: on the one hand Garak & Bashir, on the other "Allamaraine!"
The Forsaken - Lwaxana: "I can swim"
Duet
In The Hands of the Prophets

Duet
In the Hands of the Prophets
Emissary
Captive Pursuit
Dramatis Personae

Not my favourite season of DS9, but I did like all of these episodes.
  1. Duet
  2. In the Hands of the Prophets
  3. Babel
  4. Emissary
  5. Past Prologue

“Emissary” and “Dax” are the two from season 1 that stand out in my mind. It’s weird but I rarely rewatch episodes before season 4, partly because the writing got more compelling, but also because Sisko looked more authentic when they let him shave his head and grow the goatee. As Ira Behr said, “This is how he felt comfortable as a person in life.” After seeing Brooks like that, it's hard to go back to the Sydney Poitier look.

Another good question might be—“what DS9 episode lends itself to the Filmation treatment?”

Space Sentinels, also a Filmation product, also featured shape shifters, so that might allow for Founders. Too much going on for Way of the Warrior, my favorite.

Second shap?

5 favorite Deep Space Nine shows,
in my case 6.
Emissary
Trials and Tribble-lations (first time I ever saw this show).
Bable ( It makes me laugh)
The Homing Coming, The Circle and The Siege (I guess that is 6 sorry)

I think they're:
Progress
Emissary
If Wishes Were Horses
Duet
Captive Pursuit

but I haven't seen some since the 90s so I might have a different opinion if I watched today, and I've definitely never seen Dramatis Personae and maybe The Storyteller.
Emissary I will always love though for it's themes about getting past grief and pain. I've thought a bit about the part where the metaphorical stuck in the past becomes a literal thing with the wormhole aliens and like how a lot of people after any trauma can't move on.
I remember liking a lot about Vortex, with the Miradorn and that crab ship, and also how it has hints to "The Search."
Babel I thought was pretty goofy and fun.
I remember not liking Past Prologue, A Man Alone, Dax, Q-Less
I love Noh-Jay Consortium. Man what if that had come back as like a a reoccurring gag, like Art Vandelay. "Who are you, where you from?" "I'm Jake Sisko and this is Nog. We're from the-" "We're from the Noh-Jay Consortium." "Never heard of you."
I do like the more innocent feeling of early DS9 quite a bit. I was pretty happy with the Dominion story but I also think fondly on the space station just being your average spaceport in the middle of nowhere.
