First White Christmas!

Ours is so pretty! My folks and I were out last night visiting family and it was raining with snowflakes mixed in on the way there. By the time we left for home the ground and vehicles were covered, and it was snowing in earnest. It was an absolutely lovely ride home, and then I had to walk my dog, which just added to the fun and charm of it all.

By this morning we had about three inches, and it was still snowing a bit. I need to go take some pictures before it completely melts off.

I'm thrilled, though. Never ever had a white Christmas before. In fact, news reports said that the Atlanta area had not had snow covering on Christmas since the 1880s. The fact that it happened in my lifetime is just wonderful. :)

Someone explain to me the "awe" towards snow: It's just frozen precipitation, ice crystals, nothing more.

It's a symbol of God's love for us; that he would cover the bosom that is our Earth with his pure, white goodness.

It's beutiful to look at. A nightmare to pass through, though.

We usually don't have snow on Christmas, perhaps once in every third year, but this year it's been crazy. 40 cm and counting. There is no longer any free space to move the plowed snow to.

Friday was supposedly the first white Christmas Eve that we had in 18 years (according to Random CBS Anchorman). I find that a little hard to believe for Chicago. Now we've got about 12-15 inches of snow on the ground, and it's awesome. As long as the snow plows and salt trucks are out doing their jobs, snow is fine.

I think it is mixed in with the Christmas Story mythology. Is there awe in the Southern Hemisphere for the white stuff in the culture of do just skiers take notice down below?

I'm in Georgia. The South. We don't often have snow. If we DO have snow, we get it in February or March. So, I've never had a white Christmas - ever. I'd resigned myself to being content with a cold, dry Christmas for the rest of my life.

THIS YEAR, WE GOT SNOW. I'm giddy with delight! So happy! Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

So, do you usually get snow? Any particularly fun/interesting Christmas snow stories to share? :D

Yup. Pretty exciting. Well, it was exciting for a day... I'd rather it just melt away now so I can get on with things. ;)

It was a White Christmas over here in Alabama, too! The only other time I saw one was around 5 years ago when I was visiting relatives. In Houston.
My daughter was extremely excited, since this is the first significant snow she's ever seen (that she can remember), and it was the first time she's been able to build a snowman. Actually, on my way to church this morning, we saw a *lot* of snowmen!

Freakishly mild winter this year around these parts. Hasn't been any significant snow since April.

Western Mass got no white Christmas.

We were supposed to get 8-24 inches... looks like MAYBE 8 inches by the time it's over. Was supposed to be 10-15 inches overnight, 2-4 inches an hour with thundersnow... stopped snowing at 11pm and hasn't started back up and it's 3am.

7am...

My snow blower has worked perfectly for 9 years, never an issue, just swell. Tested it last month, worked perfectly.

So when it's time for some snow works fine, starts up fine.... hit the 4 inches of snow and it stalls!

I drove from Vermont to DC last night. I took a westerly route (I-88 to I-81), to avoid the worst of the storm, but still passed through a stretch of at least 100 miles of snow on 81. I'm sure it would have been much worse if I'd taken 95.....
