First View of SOTL 2011 NX-01 Refit Diagram

Just how did this topic go from Starships to Centerfolds again?

Doug Drexler has announced on his site that the NX-01.5 will be fully revealed in its two hulled glory on June 27th. And may Porthos have mercy on us all...

OK, it's probably something I'm not doing right, but I can't seem to find the refit diagram on the link in the first post. Someone able to help me locate it, please?

Two ways to get to it. Under categories click on "Ent" and then scroll down. Or, now that I found it, just go to the april 25th, 2010 entry.:bolian:

I'll cut to the chase and then say no more about it. I hate ENT with a passion and from day one I've thought it was one of the worst pieces of garbage I've ever seen. From first hearing of its premise and concepts and then from the first episode I've seen it as nothing but a piss poor and blatantly obvious reboot and undermining of what came before.

Till my dying day I will never grant it any credit for anything nor will I ever acknowledge it in any manner whatsoever. It's garbage.

Wooo. Harsh dude. I'll admit I'm not a fan of ENT. But I don't hate it that much. It's watchable. I don't like to consider it part of the TOS/Movies/TNG/DS9/VOY continuity, but technically, it is. So the screwups have to be Treksplained away with fannon conjecture. The one thing that bothered me most about ENT was its name. Why call it "Enterprise"? We know that Kirk's Enterprise was the first starship to be called by that name. Even Sisko says it in "Trials and Tribble-Ations" - "This was the first Enterprise. Constitution class." They could have called it anything else without having to try to shoehorn it into the existing continuity. Then there's the design. Why did they have to make it so obviously an Akira class knockoff? Why not go with a more original design. The Bonaventure class in last year's SOTL was absolutely awesome and would have made a perfect predecessor to the NCC-1701. But I digress. I can tolerate ENT, but I don't particularly like it.

I enjoyed Enterprise quite a bit, but then I like Star Trek in general.

This ship looks better without the silly lower engineering hull. It looked fine as originally designed by Drexler.

I hate rationalization for stupid inconsistencies.

I dislike rationalizations for inconsistencies in general. Trek's a bunch of stories; roll with that.

There can't be much that's more trivial than worrying about the pictures on the wall of the ship's rec room in a thirty year-old movie. Jeez.

I'm glad we got a ship that was at least slightly different from all the other Enterprises...

I might also have embraced a ship shaped like all the previous Enterprises but named something else altogether. Then again, we already got Voyager.

I wonder if the adventures of the ringship Enterprise would have carried some sort of a dramatic or aesthetic penalty?

We've never had a really good look at the ringship E. And certainly the few schematics done of it aren't thoroughly detailed enough as to be complete. The design could have been adapted and tweaked into something a bit more substantial.

It's all about execution. If they had gone with the ringship design--after all MJ designed it as an early exploratory vessel for a series never produced--it would have helped to set the series apart visually for one thing while respecting at least the spirit of what many people accepted as established.

Of course what was really needed was a different creative team to give the show a different feel as well. The same gang making ENT was essentially the same people doing Trek from VOY and back to TNG. No wonder it came off as same old same old.

Well, the ringship eventually became both the Andromeda Ascendant and the standard design for 22nd Century Vulcan ships, so it's not like the design completely went to waste...

I have to admit, the new 3D image is a lot nicer looking than the preview one. I wasn't too keen on adding a secondary hull this way (and I'm still not entirely sold ), but the refit definitely looks better in this view.

The 2011 SOTL calendars are out now and available from Amazon. I think they are about $12.00 each. I received mine yesterday and I am really impressed.

If you like it, GREAT!

if you don't then read below.
No, it is not the enterprise.
yes it has long pylons, thanks for the observation.
yes, I removed the outriggers. Deal with it.
In my opinion, this refit happens around the 2160's
this explains why the design is advanced.

my explanation for the design looking too much the TMP refit is the similarities between the 1970 challenger and the 2009 challenger. since I'm making it up as i go along, why not have this be the origin of the look.
