First 'V: Visitors' scenes released

First the Spaceballs try to steal our air, now Visitors want our water.

Yeah, and what's wrong with all the water in the Oort cloud, anyway? Plenty there for everyone, without the bother and expense of invading a planet full of surly primitives with guns.

Marian

She flat out said "we came to take your water." And people cheer.

Water is one of the most abundant compounds in the universe. Any civilization sufficiently advanced enough to arrive at Earth via space ships should easily be able to snag a couple of comets or bits of Jupiter/Saturn's rings and get as much water as they need.

Now, having said that ... "Pretae-nama!"

Fillon and Tudyk seem to be finding real work.

I'm not sure, but I think Tudyk appears in V.

You are correct. According to :http://us.imdb.com/title/tt1397515/

Elizabeth Mitchell ... Erica Evans
Alan Tudyk ... Dale Maddox
Morena Baccarin ... Anna
Laura Vandervoort ... Lisa
Joel Gretsch ... Father Jack Lowery
Morris Chestnut ... Ryan
Christopher Shyer ... Marcus
Lourdes Benedicto ... Valerie Holt
David Richmond-Peck ... George
Logan Huffman ... Tyler Evans
Stefan Arngrim ... Roy
Jesse Wheeler ... Brandon

V gives a big, beautiful head

Fascinating. I hope this show is a fun, fast paced drama like Burn Notice and not a medium of yawn inducing boredom like NuBSG.

You mean nuV of course.

V stood for Victory in the original.

I hope "V" is as excellent as nuBSG.

You mean nuV of course. What's sauce for the goose, after all.

No, I think we should call it nuV.

I dunno, I am still wait and see. I know it may have been cheesey but I rather liked the notion of them required to wear sun glasses in our sunlight and the funny voices. Not to mention I loved the take on the Nazi "It can happen here' aproach.

Somehow the subtle and slow occupation of the cities of earth which parrelled the occupation of Europe by the Nazi's was a little hard to watch. I loved the old man's reactions as he saw at first what no one else did having lived through the German occupation and the speech at the end from his son about 'we have to help...or else we havent learned a thing (That scene is still a little moving )

So I sorta miss the old red/black and gold military goosestepping feel of the Visitors. But then again we have only seen Anna. So I will play this by ear and I am interested to see where they take this.

Vons

While I agree the Nazi subtext worked fine in the original, nowadays that kind of thing would appear WAY too obvious and on-the-nose.

I think they have the right idea by going for a quieter and more insidious kind of invasion story this time.

First the Spaceballs try to steal our air, now Visitors want our water.

Reminds me of an SG-1 quote

Sam: (describing an *ahem* unnamed movie) So they fly halfway across the galaxy in a highly-advanced spaceship, but they don't use their technology to take over the planet. You know what their weakness turned out to be? Water! I mean, if that's true, why go to all the trouble of invading a planet that's two thirds water? Not to mention rain.
Daniel: Why do you watch those movies if all you're going to do is cut them up?

Sad that even Aliens realize that if you lower the zipper to a certain level, you get instant devotion.

It's like a huge cliche!

Beautiful Victoria Secret looking women(Baccarin,Vandervoort) from another planet arrive to enslave humans.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I was expecting just a dumber and flashier version of the original movie, but it looks like they're trying for something a bit different and more subtle this time.

Yes, because there's nothing "sublter" than a giant floating head in the sky...

This is crap, pure unadulterated crap!

Why didn't they work with Ken when he was making the rounds BEGGING for funding for his "V" projects? Who better to make good NEW "V" than the person who made the OLD "V" good?

I got a Heroes season 1 vibe from the first clip...

I hope they go for something interesting when they reveal their alien look(heck, will they even look like aliens?)

I dunno, I am still wait and see. I know it may have been cheesey but I rather liked the notion of them required to wear sun glasses in our sunlight and the funny voices. Not to mention I loved the take on the Nazi "It can happen here' aproach.

It's the moral allegory that gives V it's gravitas. Otherwise it's just another sci-fi show.

I loved the old man's reactions as he saw at first what no one else did having lived through the German occupation and the speech at the end from his son about 'we have to help...or else we havent learned a thing (That scene is still a little moving )

Grandfather Bernstein stolethe first mini...he delivered his part so spot on I always tear up in his big scenes. (Even the second "We have to help", which he technically wasn't in, but I could sooo hear his voice when the letter was being read.)

So I sorta miss the old red/black and gold military goosestepping feel of the Visitors.

Best bad guy uniforms since the Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars.

I'm not a fan of the 80's V, but watching the clips I did like the eerie creepy vibe they were trying to infuse in the viewer, letting you know (as if you had any doubts), these Visitors are bad people.

Morena just seems perfect for the role. The subtle arrogance and high-horse looks and speech, pulled off rather easily. It would be wonderful if her character was like that throught a potential series, even professing innocents to the very end and trying to talk the good guys into her people being innocent -- just because she believes she can.

Who did the scoring (if anybody has a "leaked" copy of the pilot)? There's obviously music, though it sounds like synth droining (making me worry about the scoring).
