first theorist for continental drift

Although now largely forgotten, geographer Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) proposed the first theory for continental drift, more than 300 years before Alfred Wegener (1912).

Can still remember the "aha!" and awe I felt in Freshman High School (1971) Earth Science class when I first learned about the Continental Drift, and later the tectonic plate/subduction movement...we are truly on a Living, Breathing
Planet...May Gaia, et al., give us the strength and wisdom to keep her so...
