For me:
TMP: Director's Edition. While the new effects do stand out a bit, they did go to some effort to at least attempt to make them look like visuals which could have been made in 79. I actually think they did a pretty good job. I half expect that people's objections to the CGI have a little bit more to do with their advanced knowledge of it being CGI than it actually being poorly done. While it does run longer, I think the pacing is much improved.
TWOK: I do think that the added dialogue it well written, but, I feel that the actual acting of those lines is poorly done. I have no objection to Peter Preston being Scotty's nephew (though I also agree that the scene is stronger the other way) but the reading of the "blind as a Tiberian bat" line make me cringe every single time. Same with the extra material on Regula I. And, honestly, Alley's alternate readings don't do it for me either. I think it's fun to see for it's academic value as an alternate cut, but I do think the theatrical version is the better one.
TUC: To tell the truth, I only ever saw the theatrical version one time. I was eleven. It was in the theater. For decades I grew up with the VHS copy of what I guess was an extended version complete with the Colonel West business. I always felt the Scooby-doo ending was dumb and I'm glad there was an earlier version (which I have forgotten) which excludes it. The other cut with the flashbacks during the mind meld, much like the Tiberian bat line, makes me cringe. If you've been paying attention to the movie, you bloody well ought to already know who at least Admiral Cartwright and General Chang are. Whether or not you remember Nanclus is not real relevant. I would tentatively recommend the original home video release, but now I know that there was a different theatrical release, I want to go see that one again...
