First spy PHOTOS of Quinto as Spock

There's little I can say that hasn't already been said. He always looked like Nimoy and now with the ears, he looks like Spock. It's such a perfect piece of re-casting. Not even DeNiro as young Vito Corleone or McGregor as young Obi-Wan looked as much like Brando or Guinness. Here's hoping he captures the mannerisms and spirit of Spock as effectively and accurately.

I can't wait to see the first official pic of the whole crew.

But there's a stark contrast between Nimoy's angular, often gaunt features compared to Quinto's more rounded, almost chubby-looking little boy face.

It's true that Quinto has a fuller face than Nimoy. What's also true is that we're seeing him under uncontrolled conditions in full daylight. Even most outdoor photography (close-ups, anyway) in a film of this kind and expense involves carefully controlled lighting.

Yeah, I'm hep to that. I expect him to look different/better in the actual film.

I was basing my reaction on the reactions of others here who seem to think he's a dead-ringer.

Quinto looks good in the faraway shots, but in the close-ups he looks like some guy on SNL doing a Spock parody.

Quinto's face is too full. He looks like a little boy in a Spock costume. And the eyebrow makeup looks a little garish, as if he was applying the makeup while driving and hit a speed bump.

I don't need him to look exactly like Nimoy, so that's not a deal breaker for me. But there's a stark contrast between Nimoy's angular, often gaunt features compared to Quinto's more rounded, almost chubby-looking little boy face.

Agreed. He looks nothing like Nimoy, he's too round and chubby-cheeked to look like Nimoy. But I'm not too bothered by it.

Another symptom of Fat America! Which also affects Canadians, if the TOS movies are any indication...

Well, Quinto is not fat by any stretch of the imagination, but he does have a little-boy face, at least in those spy photos. And he looks nothing like Nimoy.

Actually, I suspect your "feel" on this is based upon having seen Nimoy throughout his life. Look at his face when he was younger... in "The Cage" and earlier... and he was nowhere nearly as "gaunt" as he became later. Hey, it come with age...

He has the same nose as Nimoy, and the same general facial proportions. My biggest issue with him, appearance-wise, is that his eyelids aren't as "heavy-lidded" as Nimoys are... that and his massively bushy eyebrows (which, clearly, have been shaved off ENTIRELY, as opposed to Nimoy's half-shave).

But project Quinto forward to 60 or so, hollow his cheeks a bit... honestly, he looks like he could EASILY be Nimoy's son in real life.

Hmmm... there's an interesting avenue of pursuit if we want to get even more "internet rumors" going... ;)

I can see them now: Is Zachary Quinto half-Italian and half-Irish... or is he really half-Vulcan?

It's a fair point, though. Go back and look at "The Cage" Nimoy and he has a stronger resemblance to Quinto than Nimoy at a later age.

Quinto is far from fat! But Nimoy's face always had a refined yet irregular quality that Quinto's lacks. His is more of a traditionally handsome look than Nimoy's. And yet, neither of them are "traditionally" handsome. hence why he's the best choice. It's tough to find another Spock.

Does anybody know what's up with his outfit? :wtf:
Compare his outfit in these pictures to that worn by Mark Lenard in "Journey to Babel."

We all know that "latter day Trek" always has Vulcans in robes, except for when they're large-breasted hotties in which case they wear catsuits. But it would appear that they're taking cues from Mark Lenard's Bill-Theis-designed outfit here.

A quick websearch turned up the following which, I think, illustrates the similarities quite nicely:

Maybe he's going to go lecture at Berkley. You know, talk about the downside of taking too much LDS.

No, I watched "Court Martial" again yesterday. I was basing it on that.

What interest could you possibly have in that episode?

A friend of mine asked me, "What's this Quigley stuff all about?"

So I had to set him straight.

Which was difficult because he is gay.

I don't know what is more meh news, that Ellison is pissed or that Sam watched Courtmartial.

Well, I certainly wasn't looking for any accolades for that particular accomplishment. ;)

(It's the first time I'd seen it in years, and it was at my friend's request. And I only brought it up to repond to when I had last seen Nimoy as Spock. And why am I defending myself to you, anyway?)
