First Picture of Shanks as Hawkman (Smallville)

Painting? I still think it's one of those bust/statuettes' you can buy from the comic store.

The grainy picture quality makes Shanks look like cast lead.

i must say that they give a nice target for any tec9 when he's flying past the hood....
nice big shiny red dot in the middle of his chest is hard not to aim at....
Hmmmm.... I wonder if hawkman tastes like chicken.... oh well... big thanksgiving feast tonight....

Huh? What on earth makes you think it's not a photo? They say it's a photo, and even after closer examination, it still looks real.
It may be real but it looks incredibly fake. Like someone built a model set of the Watchtower and hung a sculpted toy of Hawkman from the handrail in a really awkward position due to limited limb movement or something. Even the computer screens look incredibad.

My guess is someone used a one-step photo enhancement tool on the picture or something when they shrunk it. I dunno. But it's horribly fake looking. The only thing that makes me buy it as real is the bend of his elbow.

Amazing, they actually made the character look like the comic book! And here I was thinking that Zatanna was just a fluke.

I have to say, it looks pretty faithful to the comic.

Very nice, very faithful. I like it. :techman:

Am I crazy, or is that "picture" just a painting? I think it's just concept art, not an actual photo.

I agree. There's no way that is a photo.

The fact that it looks fuck all like a photo, and looks like a matt painting done for concept purposes. It's not a photo, and if the website says it is, they're lying.

I can't believe people are seriously saying that it looks like a photo of a live action scene. The only way that is possibly a photo is if someone took a snapshot of the concept art.

I think it looks like a photo of an action figure in his plastic toy set.

Matt(e) paintings are not used for concept purposes.

And it looks like a photo taken under a strong, blue-green light.

I think this is just concept art...Geoff Johns twitted (yes I have a twitter account don't use it that much though) a couple weeks ago that they were doing costume fittings. It looks fantastic though...

Matt(e)...

I made a typo. So sue me.

...paintings are not used for concept purposes.

Oh, so I chose the wrong format to describe it. Whatever. It still looks like concept art, and absolutely nothing like a photo.

And it looks like a photo taken under a strong, blue-green light.

No, it really doesn't.

I could go either way on Hawkman and the foreground. Its the background that makes the thing look fake. The monitors look too bright, blocky, and primary color-ish. Other things also.

Okay, just max-zoomed in on the picture on my 61" TV. Its a really shitty low-res photo, but I am convinced its a photo now. Possibly enhanced. There's a lot of fine detail in the photo that I have yet to see conveyed in a comic frame (my original guess) or painting.

The monitors have more detail than is immediately apparent.

The lighting is fairly accurate to life. There are multiple light sources. This is most apparent in the double overlapping shadow around the vent, but can also be seen from how some of it reflects off objects in the room (the round table) and Hawkman himself.

If its not a photo, its a very good mockup.

That looks like the Katar Hol/Hawkman costume not Carter Hall's version which was in JSA not JLA or are they updating the origin to fit the mythos of Smallville?

That's my five cents
