First Picard Show pic!

On an Earl Grey Hot break.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Picard is about to give a lecture at the Academy?

I am convinced that Fuller had no idea what he wanted.

I conjecture Fuller knew what he wanted, but it didn't jive with what the studio wanted. The showrunners, however, who inherited Fuller's duties after his dismissal, clearly had no idea what they wanted DISCO to be.

Perhaps. I think it all just ended up highly disorganized.

I am quite happy to have Kurtzman at the helm, as well as Star Trek's brand having its own director. But, sadly, that means that DSC will be the punching bag for a long time to come :(

Yeah, I tend to agree with this assessment. Remember, JJ Abrams wanted a Trek 'cinematic universe,' covering movies, TV shows, books, comics, etc. and Paramount said no to that as well, which (someone correct me if I'm wrong) led him to work on SW instead. I can see CBS doing the same with Fuller.

Looks like Trek so far. Where were these folks when Discovery was starting up?

From two photos? Seriously? This is a great example of why I have trouble taking the whole "Discovery is not real Star Trek!" thing seriously.

I can't wait to see the first tiny detail that renders this show anathema.

I'd wait on that Judgement. I expect the faithful have their knives ready for this one.

I imagine they will all be punching bags as they release, another show might actually alleviate some of the anger at Discovery as those folks will focus on the newer shows.

From a personal perspective, I am already much more excited for the Picard show than I ever was for Discovery, simply because the first pics they've released reinforces that it is "Star Trek". It seems silly, but they aren't dumping changes in our lap very first thing, they are easing us into this version of Star Trek. Like when the first photos of the Abrams film uniforms gave us the distinct TOS vibe, before showing how much different the universe would be from what came before.

I actually just posted an answer to this.

True. Already the AGT complaints are being heard.

I'm glad you're excited.

And I've never once said Discovery isn't real "Star Trek". I just don't consider it a prequel to TOS, I consider it its own timeline. :techman:
Sorry, it gets confusing when you state a picture reinforces that it is "Star Trek" indicating there is some sort of margin it must surpass in order to be worthy of the title (slightly tongue in cheek).

Not quite what I was getting at. I am absolutely certain the Picard show will be far different from TNG and the other 24th century shows. But it is nice that they grease the wheels with something identifiably "Star Trek" before moving onto the changes they are going to make.

Was AGT really a future timeline or just a fantasy created by Q?
Not certain and it won't matter. There is the expectation that the future looks like that.

Fair enough. Not how it came across but I appreciate the clarification.

Wasn't Fuller's original idea an anthology series taking place at multiple points in the prime universe timeline?

Apparently, yes. A "seasonal anthology" where each season tells a distinct story, like American Horror Story, for instance.

I find it sad when people insist that "real Star Trek" means "a copy of something Star Trek did decades ago." For me, "real Star Trek" means innovating and looking forward, trying new ideas and approaches. Its literal mission statement is to boldly go where it hasn't gone before, after all.

I prefer to believe the latter. But the "Future Imperfect" future was a fantasy created by Barash, yet later episodes still recycled its future uniforms and props even though it didn't make sense. TV shows are made on a budget and need to reuse things when they can.

Means nothing to fan expectations.

Any "negative" reaction to Picard is a joke. This is like a vacation. Seriously. I should be ordering a Pina Colada.

When we get to the Georgiou Series, that's when we'll see the real fireworks. But there's time for that later in another thread. In the meantime... I'm liking what I see of Picard so far!

All these shows have been doing is going where Star Trek has gone before. Might as well look the part.

Another spy pic. They're wearing the "All Good Things" badges!!!!

He looks as though he is having an existential crisis.

"What am I doing here?"
, he seems to be asking. "As this world literally passes me by, is it also figuratively passing me by?"
