That expression from Patrick Stewart is gold! I am however a little disappointed by the cheapness of that cadet/officer's uniform. Compared to the uniforms in Discovery, this one looks rather ill fitting and, well, cheap. However, if the costuming is the worst thing to say about the Picard show so far, I'd say that's pretty good!
Could be that Starfleet isn’t the center of the show and this could be one of the few times we see them. So they didn’t go overboard spending money. Though I prefer a bit of a looser look compared to Discovery’s spandex.
I was actually talking about the Tillman Water Reclamation Plant in Van Nuys, California; a location used in TNG, DS9, and Voyager for Starfleet Academy, but, I didn't notice the Convention Center text, so.
I think the new uniform looks great. It feels like a combo of TNG, DS9 and VOY with a little bit of new.
It's not so much the design, but the execution: The collar is standing away from the neck, which is fine, but requires some sort of stiffening material inside in order for it to hold its shape. Doesn't need to be too stiff, just enough to give a little more structure. The shoulders are likewise also problematic, because there is an excess of material slumping off the shoulders causing the jacket to crease. It kinda looks like it was measured for a larger actor. Like I said before these are minor nits and won't matter one bit if the story is good.
The looseness (I've only seen the screencap, can't get the vid to play) reminds me of the way uniforms so often look in fanfilms. I'm sure it'll be fine in the finished product.
It's a follow up to TNG, with references to the Hobus event from the Prime universe side, and the Starfleet logo on some of the shots looks like they're subtley adding DSC details to things. There's no connection to the Kelvin universe.
The series appears to be dealing with the fallout from the destruction of Romulus, an event which set into motion the creation of the Kelvin timeline. We probably won't hear anything about the Kelvin Timeline though, and the show will instead be focused on the Prime timeline consequences.
Yes I was thinking the same thing - the Starfleet characters we might see briefly at the start simply to set up why Starfleet is not involved in the story.
Interesting, we all said Picard looks confused/sad in the still, but in moving picture it seems he's just pulling a sarcastic face It's not much but it gives us something to chew on until SDCC/Vegas
Yeah, I'm guessing there is something he wants Starfleet's help on, but they're not willing to give it to him.
??? Ok. So the uniform the crewman is wearing resemble the prequel comic book "Countdown" which was a precursor to Star Trek, done by the makers of Star Trek... where Nero journeyed to the JJverse to cast his revenge because of the fallout from the destruction of Romulus... but there's no connection?
