First pic of *edit* full-sized toy props....

The thread discussing the props is here. The savvy observer will note the mention of a secret, behind-the-scenes film of the props being made. Wish we could see it.

EDIT: The poster there just added pics of the communicator as well; apparently, it has a viewscreen in the flip-up lid.

Further edits: it seems these are not the real props, but the Playmates toys. Perhaps the mods should merge this with one of the ongoing threads?

Re: First pic of the REAL phaser prop.

It's looking like they have made a real effort to make certian things look close to TOS, the only thing that has changed dramaticly is the bridge.I thi the alternate timeline expanation is maybe not so alternate after all

Phaser looks like a sex toy. Communicator looks very much like a Cell Phone I saw recently. Tricorder looks great!

As a designer and a fan I can't say I like the look of any of the props I've seen.

This phaser just looks unbalanced. The lines are sort of in the right place but just off.

Presumably the red and blue bits are the 'rotating barrel'??
... Which just sounds like a way to get a redshirt killed while he waits for it to work!!

Oh, and the red and blue emitters look ready to be snapped off!!

The communicator looks boring.

And, as for the warp nacelles on the Enterprise, they are too close together!!!

... but you all knew that anyway!

Yeah, it just keeps getting harder and harder for me to believe that these props are supposed to be more.... realistic than the TOS ones.

really. agreed! after forty some odd years you think they could come up with something better than this crap.at least the original phaser looked like a real weapon. this thing looks like a squirt gun.

The original phaser and communicator still look good over forty years later.

Star Trek 2 and 3's communicators weren't as iconic.

The ST:TMP and ST3 phasers were re-inventions of the formula that I liked and still like.

These new designs just don't look good. Plus they don't fit in with how sleek the bridge looks.

Strangely enough, even though this is set in the same era as the original series, I think they need more curves, especially the communicator.

Having looked at it again, the phaser looks like a bit like something I might have designed when I was about thirteen and going though my first phaser designing thing.

... Or maybe I made it out of Lego.

What is the pointy bit at the rear? Is it a bayonet, just in case the rotating barrel fails and you have to go hand-to-hand. It actually looks more effective as a weapon than the front end!!

i agree but i would replace your use of the word"good " with "real" . thats the difference between the original show designs and these abortions.tos series phaser, communicator, and tricorder looked real . these look like toys.:(

Um, breaking news...

These are toys, Playmate toys...They are not real props from the movie ;)
The OP had it wrong at first that they are the real deal.

Considering the quality you can get on toys (Art Asylum and Character Options come to mind), this looks bad!!

I have Playmates phasers from TOS, movies and TNG and (with the exception of the funny blue colourways on some of them, I think they look good).

Is it really going to be all chrome? Where is the detail?

If it is an accurate replica of the prop then the producers of the movie are to blame! If it isn't accurate then it shouldn't have been approved.

The Barbie one looks more realistic in it colouring.

Nice bridge and transporter. I'm liking the 3 3/4" figures better than the 6" one they've shown.

They are just toys but hopefully Playmates has raised its game since AA/DST have been making toys that are not that far off from Master Replicas versions but at 1/10 the price.
