It doesn't help that there's one planetary haircut.
I like him better with the beard and slightly longer hair.
For 27 out of 28 years as a fan, TOS was my favorite Trek series. The haircut and shave will satisfy purists, but I don't care. I preferred his Disco look.

I preferred his Disco look as well. It is not even a continuity issue, he could have shaved five minutes before the beginning of 'Where No Man Has Gone Before.'
This pic of him looks really bad, like one of the crappy photoshops people did when the casting was announced. Hopefully it will look better live.

Too bad the MacFarlane action figure line crashed and burned. I would've liked a Discovery Pike and Spock.
At least it (probably) means that Spock will not stay behind on the Discovery for season 3...
