It could plausibly hit $200m by Wednesday and Thursday at the latest. Predictions for todays(Monday 7/21) receipts are anywhere from $18-22m! Which, even taking a median figure like $20m, would place TDK at $178m after 4 days!!

What is much more amazing is that TDK is at 9.6 at imdb which is almost half a point higher than the rating of The Godfather.

Stuff like that is so stupid though. I haven't seen the movie yet but even if I think it's GREAT when I do....for anyone to compare it to the Godfather at all is such a stretch, I think. The Godfather was a story of the American experience as much as it was a damn good crime opus. It has still held up as a frickin' masterpiece after 36 years, seeped into pop culture, the whole bit.

If this feeling continues after the hype cools and years contribute to hindight, THEN I think it will be prudent to judge The Dark Knight's standing. IMDb has been known to fall victim to fanboys often. Wasn't Serenity rated like 9.5/10 when it was released?

IMDB ratings are often sky high for science fiction, fantasy and superhero films when they're first released. I expect TDK will end up with an excellent rating, but it won't be ranked quite that high once the dust clears. For instance, Star Trek: First Contact is now rated at 7.5/10 on IMDB, while when it was first released it was rated at something like 8.8.

Batman Begins settled down to a current rating of 8.3/10. I suspect TDK will settle down to somewhere around 8.7 or 8.8.

Yes, movies do tend to have inflated IMDb scores early on. I think both Fellowship of the Ring and Return of the King were briefly at #1 when they first came out. But I can't remember any previous movie managing to stay at 9.5 even after it gets 69,000 votes, before The Dark Knight. So it might be a while before it starts to move down the list.

TDK will easily - very easily! - hold #1 against The X-Files and Step Brothers next weekend.
No doubt about it.

We just don't know how many XF fans are going to converge on their cineplexes this weekend. I'll be pleased if The X-Files: I Want To Believe can take in a modest $30 million (the film cost a reported $35 million). I hope it will end up as successful as Get Smart.

Serenity crashed down well before the 50K mark. TDK is still going strong at near the 70K mark. It's going to end up some where in the top 20.

It's quite likely then that TDK will hit $200m by tomorrow.
The best ever Tuesday is Transformers with $27m, second place is PotC: DMC with $15m. Falling anywhere in between the two which is a damn near certainity puts it at $200m.

The BOM board users are saying if its pace holds like this, and it could, all through the weekend then TDK could be at $300m by Sunday. They then are calling for a cool down but yeah its almost a lock now for $400m with this crazy start.

A first for a Batman movie.
A first for modern DC comics movies period.

Finally they put out something modern that creates a frenzy like Spidey, X-Men and Iron Man have in the last 10 years.

It would be the first $400 million domestic film in Warner Bros history. It could well take the all-time highest grossing domestic crown for a superhero film from Spider-Man.

What Will TDK's Final (Domestic) Box Office Take Be?

So the goliath that is "The Dark Knight" just keeps rolling over the box-office. The film made $24.5 million on MONDAY... 24.5 million on a MONDAY! I can think of a few dozen films who would kill for that as their weekend opener! To put that into perspective, Spider-Man 3, which did $151 million in their 3 day weekend opener, only did $10 million on their Monday after. TDK did double-and-a-half of that!

TDK is poised to be the big winner at the box office for the entire fiscal year of 2008. The only question is, by what amount? Place your bets!
