First looks at Jason Momoa as Conan...

^^ Neat clip. But the hyper-exaggerating of the spurting blood looks stupid. It all would have worked better and more effectively without the exaggeration.

The target audience likes the overexaggerated blood spurts and such nowadays, though, so there's probably going to be a ton of that all throughout the movie.

Hmm, this looks pretty good, but with so much stuff coming out that I want to see I'm starting to think this might be a Netflixer, unless it gets really good reviews.

I thought the whole movie was about him going out for revenge after his family and village are killed/destroyed.
Yep. Here's the description from wikipedia:
After his father is murdered and village destroyed, Conan ventures into an unforgiving world where he survives as a thief, pirate, and warrior. On his path of wanton adventure and women, Conan chances upon the warlord responsible for his tribe's destruction. As he tracks Khalar Zym, Conan battles monsters, Zym's henchmen, and Marique, a powerful witch.

There's also a tie-in collection of Howard stories. It's a mass market paperback, with Momoa on the cover, but I can't remember which stories are in it.
EDIT: Just downloaded the Nookbook sample and it has "The Phoenix on the Sword", "The People of the Black Circle", "The Tower of the Elephant", "Queen of the Black Coast", "Red Nails", and "Rogues in the House".

Okay so I saw it last night, I'll try and keep it as spoiler free as I can, but obviously if you don't want to know anything then skip this post.

I will have to preface this by saying that my enjoyment was hampered somewhat by being sat in the 4th row, it was a massive screen and it was in 3d so being that close made my eyes hurt a bit.

Also, I've only seen the original once and I can't remember that much about it so I can't really give a comparison to that.

Right -

First off it is fairly gory, but I wouldn't say overly so, however there are a couple of bits which are quite squeamish. There's a lot of blood being spilled and bone cracking, but the majority of the battle scenes are in the first part of the movie. Lots of cool fights and death, oh and his birth scene is similar in theme to Kirk's in Star Trek.

Jason Momoa as Conan is very charismatic and fierce. I really enjoyed his performance. Most of the cast did well actually, although Stephen Lang didn't really give his character much depth, even though there was the opportunity to do so.

Overall I enjoyed it, there was only one part - the fight with the sandpeople - which I felt dragged. Overall there was good action, good fights, blood, guts, and tits. What more can you want really
