First look at Caesar from Rise of the Planet of the Apes

With closing in on 7B humans on this planet, a chimp revolt is hard to take seriously,

Eh, I thought it was alright.

The lead monkey does not look photorealistic to me, but the effect is well done enough for me to frankly not care.

Unfortunately the computer I'm using is having some technical problems regarding the multi-quote button.
There's a simple solution here (one I often use): First, click the quote button beneath a comment, and then select the quote in the 'reply' screen, and cut it.

Repeat the process, pasting a quote into a new reply screen and then selecting both quotes to be cut a second time.

Much obliged.

My point is, the Apes rebelled before people blew it up based on previous movies.
Plural. The core of our misunderstanding. :D

To me, POTA is a one classic Charlton Heston movie, nothing more, nothing less. I couldn't care less about the sequels, or that Tim Burton travesty.

I wasn't including the remake, but this is a continuation of the original line of movies. If it were just the first movie, I wouldn't care. That being said, were it just the first movie, I would see it as a movie without need of sequels. But, since there are sequels, it's worthwhile to try and extend from them. Certainly, I don't see the point in pretending only the first movie existed.

If you follow the original sequels then you're led to believe that Zira and Cornelius going back in time is what changed the way the Apes rose. Or that is was a time loop always meant to happen as it did.

This new film seems to challenge that with the idea this all happens before Zira and Cornelius come back in time. If so it's essentially ignoring all but the first and perhaps the second films.

A lot of people pretend The Matrix sequels never existed, or the Star Wars prequels, or those last two awful Terminator movies, Superman 3 and 4 etc.
I like only the first two Apes films.
I like only the '78 Superman (live-action besides the George Reeves series and the '90s animated)
I like only Alien and Aliens.
I like only the first Matrix.
Shall I go on?

I remember there was a whole line of Godzilla films that only counted the original film as canon... that is, they didn't even consider each other canon.

Honestly though, are these films including the original Apes film in their canon? I assumed it was a complete reboot.

Don't forget Superman Returns. Brian Singer himself stated that only the first two movies count.

One can enjoy or ignore any movie one likes - why it's important to assert that a film does or "doesn't exist" or (here's an absurd non sequitur) "isn't part of my canon") is beyond me.

People can personally do whatever the hell they want with movies. My only point is, I don't see why a Planet of the Apes movie should be required to only follow the first movie and ignore the rest. The reason the Apes aren't evolving after a post-nuclear apocalypse is because the later Ape movies stated that's not what happened. Not that any of this is important, it's just trying to be an entertaining movie.

Well, there's no way that Taylor or the audience could know at the end of the original POTA that a nuclear war caused the apes to evolve. All that could be reasonably concluded was that a catastrophic war brought down modern human civilization.

But guess what? They happened. Too bad. :p

And seriously, anybody who counts Beneath and not the rest has no right to complain. Beneath is just awful, despite having Heston. And even his role was extremely reluctant.
Conquest is actually pretty awesome, and Escape isn't too bad. I'd probably place Beneath above Battle, but that's about it.

That's a fair assessment. None of the others, except Battle, was nearly the disappointment that Beneath was.

Stargate fans might recognize David Hewlett as the angry man pointing at John Lithgow.

According to a synopsis posted awhile back

One day, Walter accidentally leaves Will's house and is nearly ran over by a neighboor, Hunsiker (David Hewlett) who becomes hostile towards Walter. Caesar tries to defent him, but accidentally mauls Hunsiker

Interesting although it feels like I just saw the entire John Lithgow subplot in less than a minute.
