Wait, they're making a new POTA movie? This is the first I've heard of this. I would have hoped that the fact the last one was so terrible would stop them bothering trying again, but apparently that is just an extra enticement in Hollywood today.
That clip looks like a dude in a suit. On one hand, it's impressive that it's good enough to pass for real, but for all the trouble it doesn't look any different to a dude in makeup. Of course it would be stupid of me to make any real judgement based on a 5 second clip, as it shows minimal movement. Hopefully the mouthes will look a lot better in CG, and not just flap around like the prosthetics did.

I wasen't really interested in this movie, till now. That looks like an ape realizing it's intellegence perhaps for the first time. This is pretty cool and very realistic looking.
The big question is - are we finally at the stage where we can realistically show the apes throwing poop at each other?
The hero can be giving his big speech and then he gets a mouthful of poop as the audience shows its displeasure. This should be filmed in 48fps and 3d.

"It sounds clunky" is a good enough reason. I guess at first they went for the title which had less of a connection but sounded better, then changed their minds.Dennis said:

It also fits the standard naming convention. Beneath the Planet of the Apes, Escape From the Planet of the Apes, Conquest of the Planet of the Apes, Battle for the Planet of the Apes...Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

I still haven't worked out why Helena Bonham-Carter looked more attractive in ape makeup than in real life.
As for apes getting human pretensions -- I'd prefer to see an adaptation of some of David Brin's Uplift Universe books.

have to agree with Dennis on this issue. it would be a mistake not to utilize the built in marketing and recognition of the 'Apes' name. if people hear about 'Rise of the Apes' they'll be like, 'oh whats that?' they hear 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and they might be a fan of the old movies or maybe even the Burton film and decide to see 'Rise'.
Not everything does, but some properties lend themselves to further explorations of their environment. Despite the declining quality of the original four sequels, there was still a lot of interesting ideas to cover. A new trilogy from this starting point could better explore these ideas, learning from the mistakes of the first time.
I really think Weta is one of the best SFX/CGI houses out there and can even at times beat ILM.

^wow, really? You guys have gone ape shit crazy...I thought she was still pretty attractive as the queen in the kings speech or in a dirty way as Marla Singer in Fight Club.
