The most annoying thing is the pic showing the Enterprise-delta banners on the academy grounds - it seems to confirm that the use of the delta has been retconned to become the symbol of Starfleet in general, as it was in TNG onward, and not just an individual ships moniker as it was in TOS..

Eh, I can't bring myself to care about that. The delta symbol has become such an ubiquitous part of the Star Trek, it would feel odd NOT to see it with Starfleet uniforms. Only a small minority of hardcore Star Trek fans are really going notice the retconn and even a smaller amount are going to care about it. Heck, even in TOS they couldn't keep it straight with wardrobe and we'd see the symbol on people who weren't on Enterprise. Also it didn't start with TNG, it started with TMP if I recall right.

I disagree. The most annoying thing in the pic is the license plate on the futuristic car. Looks like we'll have to pay license and registration on our hover cars in the future!

Another thing about the delta symbol, is it possible that only certain ships were allowed to have a custom symbol and others like the Enterprise used the standard symbol? Maybe the option to have a custom symbol was left up to the desecration of the captain or some other authority?

I noticed those right off. But could it be that they are just decorations celebrating the dedication of the Enterprise. After all we don't really know the reason for all the "cadets" being gathered together do we. Maybe it was a pep rally.
