First images sent back of Apollo sites!

Don't know how the Moon landing hoax guys are going to handle this news! NASA's LRO mission has just sent back it's first pictures of most Apollo landing sites. Higher resolution images will be gained at a later date, but these ones are still pretty good!

APOLLO SITES

.

I bet some of them will still cry hoax even if they were sent up there and shown the site.

Unfortunately, you're probably right! There's no way 'mere' images from orbit are going to shake their beliefs. Probably would have to be a manned mission to the sites that would finally convince them.

Well, if you can send them, surely you can send up a fake lander the day before they got there.

Hmmmm?

They'll just say the pictures themselves are faked. They don't trust NASA to tell the truth about the landings so why would they believe them now?

Anyway, saw the pics earlier on Bad Astronomy, cool stuff!

Oh, I'm sure they're measuring distances to craters and shadows to "prove" the new photos don't match up to the old.

The problem with crazy fuckers is that they WILL NOT listen to reason. Anyone who has dated an unbalanced or overly-religious person can attest to that. What is reasonable and true is just another lie to them.

The moon-hoax people are the same as the 9-11 truthers and the JFK conspiracy nitwits and the black helicopter crowd: mentally unbalanced twats.

I'm looking forward to the high res pics... but they won't appease any hoax advocates. Such folks can't be convinced with any "evidence." Even if they flew to the moon to see the sites for themselves they would probably just say robotic missions put all that stuff there.

Thanks Technomage for those pictures.. I have been wondering where on the moon the landings took place :)

I was hoping for more detail, but I guess what they show is pretty good considering the distance and time.

New NASA photos show Apollo leftovers on Moon!

http://www.stuff.co.nz/science/2606180/New-Nasa-photos-show-Apollo-leftovers

A NASA spaceship has taken the first-ever photos from space showing equipment left behind when man went to the moon.
The images released on Friday are from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, which was launched last month. They show the landing sites from Apollo 11, which landed 40 years ago on Monday, and four other Apollo missions.
On the Apollo 11 landing site, there's a fuzzy image near a crater. That is the Eagle lunar module, which took Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to the moon.

Take that conspiracy theorists!

And shame on you Nasa for waiting this long!

Pardon the neophyte question but is Hubble able to take pics of the landing sites?

The large pictures are amazing. God, I spend hours watching the Moon with my telescope. It's something I can't help but think it's one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

^^ I don't believe Hubble is equipped to take pics of anything that close. I suspect the brightness may be damaging to it, as well.

Personally, I don't want the conspiracy theorists to be convinced. They're too entertaining. :D

These new pics of the landing sites are great. I wonder if they will be able to see the flags when they can take better pictures.

Buzz Aldrin is already asking if anyone has seen his wrist watch.
:rommie:

Oh, for God's sake, before they abandon the Hubbel Telescope POINT IT AT THE MOON and take some close-up and personal shots of the landing sites.

Jeez, do I have to solve everything? :)

Okay, apparently I was wrong about Hubble being unable to image the Moon; it actually has imaged the Moon. But, according to this, it cannot image anything identifiable at the landing sites.

My daughter and I were talking about the moon the other day.

I told her the best part, for me, about looking at the moon is remembering that everyone in history has looked up at that same object: every historical figure, every land animal and dinosaur of every species that has ever lived on this planet has at least glanced at the moon.

Cleopatra, Moses, Hitler. All the biggies.

We'd be hard pressed to land on the Moon and return safely now, never mind 40 years ago.
