First Contact uniforms

Echtzeit

Lieutenant
Why have the FC uniforms never been introduced to Voyager? Later in the series, the Voyager had contact with Starfleet on a regular basis, they were even sending tons of data back and forth, so why was there never a file with the replicator pattern for the new uniforms? After all, Janeway always insisted, the Voyager would continue to be a Starfleet ship despite the distance, and that they would follow Starfleet rules and regulations. Wouldn't these regulations include some kind of uniform code? Some message like "Hi Captain Janeway, btw, we've got new uniforms, see attachment." can't be too big to be transferred via the Midas array. The producers probably kept the VOY uniforms for budget reasons or maybe to distinguish Voyager from the movies, but even DS9 went with the new uniforms, so... why? Personally, those uniforms have been made favorite, and I would have loved to see the crew in gray and black.

this is a party ship, yo

You've already answered your own question, it was likely down so that VOY could keep it's own identity, despite using the DSN style unifrom. Also a change to the uniform could mean that the show could not be aired out of order. They might not also have been able to find the budget.

But the replication idea still holds merit, it's likely they only replicate a unifrom when they need to replace one, so you could have one or two people using the new unifrom whilst the others are wearing the old one. It would be less wasteful too simply just replace the odd uniform as when needed instead of replacing them all at once.

It still takes energy. Of course, the logic of that argument is wasted on VOY. The holodeck uses incompatible power systems? Whaaaaat?! ;)

Except the energy required to break down one uniform and reassemble it into another!

Janeway just didn't like the new uniforms. I believe her actual reaction was, "Ewww, yucky!"

Ewww. Yucky!

Anyway, once she reached a high enough rank, she had them abolished. Red uniform in her old-lady future. :)

I agree. That way you wouldn't waste raw material. And it was shown on TNG that Starfleet personnel was wearing different uniforms at the same time. Although Generations went a little over the top with their switching back and forth.

Sure, someone could have started, and other would have followed, but it's just uniforms, it can't be such a huge energy cost. After all, they were replicating civilian outfits, the flight suits from 'Drive', etc... And the holodeck... I bet that one hour on the holodeck would equal the replication cost for a thousand uniforms, but then again, I have never been on a starship, so I wouldn't know for sure. Maybe Janeway didn't like the uniforms after all. What a shame.
