First contact rules

. . . 15 litres of chlorine a minute for our swimming pool. Keeping swimming pool clean is very important, so a hundred letters a minute of ammonia would be swell too.
One replicator, used with care, can destroy a planet.
Or at least sterilize it. I only just realized it, but combining the two could produce a shitload of chloramines. Enough to sterilize a lot of life forms. Sterilize in the "Nomad" sense of the word.

First contact rules—especially if aliens landed here (we’re I President) would be as follows.

I might have my hand up…as in the plate on our outer planet probe. Under no circumstances would anyone attack the being even if I were physically harmed myself.

First Contact rules? Treat them the way we would want to be treated.

"Hello natives,

You' ve noticed we've just landed on your planet. Our technology is centuries in advance of yours, and therefore fighting or resisting us would be useless. We will ruthlessly exploit your resources until they are gone, while you are wasting away as slaves in the mines and the pits in ceaseless labor (useless labor, actually, because all that could be done way more efficiently by machines, but we like having slaves as a matter of principle), every generation there being fewer of you left than before, until you are extinct. It's the natural course of things, the strong conquer the weak.

What? You don't like that? You're quite picky, aren't you? Let's see what we can do ....errrmmmm... how about this proposition, then? You join our Federation, you get a say in everything, we share our advanced technology and resources with you, and our Starfleet protects you from enemies? Deal?

I KNEW we could come to an agreement! Welcome to our Federation!"

Rules of First Contact(*)

1) Speak in a clear calm voice
2) Greet the new species and tell them you come in peace
3) Introduce yourself and the Federation
4) Stay at least 1 meter away from the person to whom you are speaking
5) Keep your hands at your sides (aka DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HIPS)
6) Do not make any sudden movements
7) Explain your mission to explore and make new contacts in space. (This presumes that the species in question has already made faster-than-light travel)
8) The Prime Directive (+)

9) REMEMBER, when you visit another planet YOU ARE THE ALIEN

(*) If possible, contact the leader(s) of the world via radio or subspace transmissions first, in order to prevent panic in the civilian population. Once contact is made it is then possible to beam down to introduce yourself (yourselves) in person

(+) 7. Nothing within these Articles of Federation shall authorize the United Federation of Planets to intervene in matters which are essentially the domestic jurisdiction of any planetary social system, or shall require the members to submit such matters to settlement under these Articles of Federation; but this principle shall not prejudice the application of enforcement measures under Chapter VII.

Articles of The Federation Chapter 1. Article 2, Paragraph 7
