Firefox 5 ?

I had to uninstall 6 and reinstall 5. This time I turned off automatic updates. I wouldn't want to come home one day and find Firefox had jumped 3 versions without giving the add-ons people time to update their software.

I'm not usually a person to care about the version number, but this decision is awful. You don't make a change so radical to an established versioning scheme when the compatibility of addons is directly tied to the version number, the corporate users rely heavily on it for upgrade decisions and third parties rely on it for their distribution packaging policies. This is a complete utter mess.

It means that for quite a portion of time your browser won't work (the addons will be broken), it means that the Firefox derivatives packaged by some distributions will have unpatched security holes, it means that corporate users will have to keep a version that has unpatched security policies, because the new major version is not tested.

Even if they are making new versions with small incremental changes, at least support your older versions for some time, and make the changes necessary to not wreak havoc with your genius.

That's what annoys me. It seems Mozilla will be releasing a new version every other month or so, which doesn't even give time for the add-on folks to update their own software before they have to do it again. It's a stupid idea.

Now, I switch between Chrome and Firefox because while Chrome is great, it's been giving me some trouble lately, so I decided to work between the two and hopefully fill in the gaps the other has. I used to love Firefox, but it seems to get more bloated and overburdened with each new release.

Yeah, really bad decision on their part. And I'd think it would be rather unfriendly and inconsiderate for those who put their time into developing plugins and seems to go against open source initiatives in general. When Firefox 4 came out, I was unhappy because it was starting to feel more like Chrome, and now they've gone and copied their update pace, which is fine for Chrome since it doesn't really have many plugins, but for Firefox, I almost feel like they'll be leaving some developers in the dust simply because they can't keep up at their pace.

geez man - you gotta get with the program :)
I'm a time traveller coming from 2012, and I'm currently using Firefox 726. It's way better than that antiquated Firefox 6 thing you're guys using. It doesn't have that silly tab and address bars that only take space. And it's 5% faster. I also have Firefox 979 beta that offers integrated support for web game tabs, e.g. for Farmville. Can't beat that.

I just started using Chrome after getting pissed off with IE9 being slow. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does the same stupid thing with bookmarks that Firefox does. Why the hell can't I have a simple drop-down list of all my favourites like on IE? When I click on the star, I expect a list of all my saved websites to appear, not a stupid little dialogue box that asks me which folder I want to save the bookmark in, or have to open a new tab to get to my favourites list.

Is there an add-on/extension/whatever that I can install to get an IE-style favourites menu?

Yes. When I was using Chrome I had to find a workaround and this is it:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nnancliccjabjjmipbpjkfbijifaainp

It's called Neat Bookmarks, and it works really well.

Aye, that was a big help. The lack of a decent bookmarks menu was the only thing stopping Chrome from being the best browser I'd used. Now it's perfect. :)

Is Facebook integrated into Firefox too now?

Oh and yeah, I agree about the Chrome bookmarks. I have a ton of bookmarks and when I first installed Chrome, it only imported about half of them and not even the ones I use the most.

I'm using Firefox 5 right now. Can somebody tell me where it stores its bookmarks?

Also, why does it never remember my login at TrekBBS, even though I specifically told it to (by checking the 'Remember Me' box)?!?

I'm using Firefox 5... the bookmarks are where they've always been!

EDIT: On, make sure you right-click on an empty spot in the toolbar space near the top, make sure that "Menu Bar" is selected. Should be able to access "Bookmarks" between "History" and "Tools" just like always.

^ No problem. Though I still would like to know why Firefox won't remember my login to TrekBBS when I quit the program.
