Firefly reboot on Disney+ (Rumor)

I couldn’t find an existing thread...
I guess it’s still a rumor, but a PG reboot? Without Joss Whedon?
I gotta think Disney is not that dumb. They are all about fan service lately, and rebooting Firefly like that would be opposite of that. Plus I don’t buy them not wanting to do PG-13. All of MCU is basically PG-13, Deadpool 3 is going to be R.
Stupid rumor is stupid. But if they want to do a proper non reboot season 2 on Disney+, I’m all for that.

So does can Disney reboot anything Fox? I wouldn't mind seeing Irwin Allen shows like Voyage to the bottom of The Sea and Land of The Giants.
As I understand, they own everything made by Fox TV studio (except what’s currently on their air, since they don’t own Fox channel itself. So they don’t own Simpsons.. yet)

If that is the case I wonder if that has anything to do with the cancelation of Lost In Space on Netflix. The season 1 reboot is released on Fox DVD's.

We should start a rumor.... The cast of Firefly is reuniting for a new show. However, it'll be about the adventures of crime novelist Richard Castle, CIA agent John Casey, Gotham City medical examiner Leslie Thompkins, killer robot from the future going by the name Cameron, alien pretending to be human going by the name Harry, legal and political power player Jessica Pearson, and Atlantis chief medical officer Jennifer Keller. And they aim to misbehave.

It's funny, back in the day, I would've absolutely hated this notion.

But now? What with everything that's finally coming out about Joss Whedon, I'm good with do over without him.

And it's not like we were going to get a continuation at this point. Ron Glass has passed away (yeah, yeah, I know, Book is dead, too, but still) and I've made my peace with the show not getting a continuation. That and rabid Browncoats have turned me off the show just a little.

On the other hand, I would prefer Disney (and whoever else might be interested in doing such a reboot) come up with something original, even if it's still riffing off the classic rag-tag team of misfits in space with a Western theme.

The Joss Whedon topic aside i don't think it'll work out that well on Disney+, at least not how the show was.

First of all the chemistry between the cast was a rare thing, this only happens once in a while and is always noticeable. Second, some of the themes and the humor are quite mature ( professional courtesans, the R rated humor of Jayne, the sometimes graphic violence), and i don't see that happening on Disney+ with their family friendly focus.

It will be watered down so much to fit Disney+' profile it won't be nearly the same style or have its fresh appeal or maybe they can find something new that is equally unique and interesting, though i doubt it.

Yeah, that would be a major stumbling block for a reboot.

A resurrection of the show with the original cast for a miniseries dealing with where they're at now would be the best option.

I think this is the best option in this discussion. A Firefly continuation has been "in the works" for too long now. It's time to let it go and move on. Fan expectations will be through the roof, and attempting a reboot will fail at every level unless executed flawlessly.

Well, Disney does own Hulu, so it could be put there instead of Disney Ploof?
I wouldn't mind a reboot, the universe was interesting, and not enough "Westerns" around
Though they would have to change it abit, the "Big Mystery" with River was solved, so if they want to do the crew in somewhat the same way, they'd have to change the mystery, or just have her a bit odd, maybe autistic?
Could work.

Fillion has a well running show at the moment, The Rookie ( mid 40s man decides to change his life and joins the LAPD as a Rookie, quite a good show), so he'll not be available for a few years i think. I haven't kept up with the other main actors as much but i guess most of them have other projects going on so it's near impossible to get the original cast together in any kind of near future though Fillion is on record as Firefly being his absolute favorite show to play ( though that may also be due to entire cast and production crew).

Either Disney makes a complete reboot and recasts everybody ( and sanitizes/Disneyfies the show a bit) or they build up a completely new crew and maybe explore what happened after the Serenity movie. That could actually work and would leave the option open for the original crew to drop in for some big two parter or something like it.

Less Firefly and more Tron, please.

Unless the original cast returns, I don't want a new Firefly. The cast and their take on the script made the show. Especially if Joss doesn't return as well, this would be a non-starter for me.

At this point, Tron is a blank slate. I've given up hope that we'll get a continuation of the Legacy storyline, but there are numerous ways they could continue in the same universe. I know Jared Leto keeps talking about Tron 3, but who knows if that will ever happen.

They own the Simpsons. It is all on Disney+.

With the allegations Joss is dealing with, he won't be back for any Disney project in the foreseeable future.

I'd be open for the original cast to make cameos and have a new cast in the same setting. I think all the plans for the original cast were derailed by its short run. They are all off doing other things now. It would be time for something new.

Can I have some of what the author of the article was smoking? I could use a good and MASSIVE break from reality right now. ;)
