Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

Drawing 724 thru 726 / 2026 Artwork 22 thru 24: Production design sketches for EVA-Trek's season three premiere, which is now online (see below)! We've got: an Isolation Ward set design; Laura Reyes, a Maquis and ally of Asuka's father; and Pearson, another Maquis.

I don't understand why the two chairs and a couch. I would get rid of the chairs and put cabinets and/or medical equipment there. Also, no lavatory??

I pinged Google, which took me to a web page with this image of a modern-day private recovery room (link only, can't embed): https://health-spaces.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/238.jpg

Up to you, of course, but if it's not too late in production, I would consider revising the floor plan above.

The chairs are there for the requirements of the scenes written for the set. To note - this is a psych ward use, not an infection protective space. I would've added in a restroom, or shown a door to one, if this was going to be more than a single-use location. The episode has already premiered, so I'm gonna let it ride as-is, but I appreciate the input!

EVA-Trek: Season Three - Episode 3x03 - "Dirty Window"

Stardate 51102.3: Following two straight months of fighting on the front lines in the Dominion War, Nerv is assigned to check in on a long-quiet duck-blind outpost.

This week's episode is based on an unmade story pitch for The Animated Series by Jerry Sohl, who penned my favorite TOS episode, "The Corbomite Maneuver." It was a fun story to adapt for EVA-Trek, and I think it came out pretty well!

EVA-Trek: Season Three - Episode 3x04 - "Hell and Back"

Stardate 51228.3: While the ship prepares for a critical and dangerous battle, Shinji distracts himself with a new letter from his mother about updates back home on Earth.

I actually met "Morn" or Mark Allen Shepherd, really nice guy, he made a few friendsand I sing along with him, the song was Mooooorn to be wild, he also told all kinds of funny little behind the scenes anecdotes. :D
In any case you did a great job as usual. :techman:

EVA-Trek: Season Three - Episode 3x05 - "Nothing Else Matters"

Stardate 51247.5: Shinji and Asuka deal with a disaster of their own making while Nerv is docked at Deep Space Nine. Meanwhile, Misato resorts to desperate measures in order to prepare for a close friend’s wedding.

This was a delight of an episode to put together, all based on a line from Lower Decks about how Mariner somehow broke Worf's mek'leth and got it fixed without him ever knowing, against the backdrop of Worf and Dax's impending wedding. I think it's the first outright comedy episode with low stakes I've pulled off in the course of the series, and I'm intensely proud of the final result.

EVA-Trek: Season Three - Episode 3x06 - "The God That Failed":

Stardate 51391.6: Nerv participates in a critical wargame exercise, partially administered by a special person from Rei’s past.

This week's episode is a retelling of a childhood favorite comedy of mine, Down Periscope (1996). It presented a fun challenge to rework the story from a different point of view and tie it into my characters' overall story arcs.

EVA-Trek: Season Three - Episode 3x07 - "The Frayed Ends of Sanity":

Stardate 51535.7: While responding to an emergency distress call, Misato is forced to take the ship back to Starbase G-6 for an unusual psychological experiment that will test the entire crew.

This episode is actually based on an unproduced story by David Ambrose, "Deadlock," from the never-made Star Trek: Phase II series. When I read the original script, there was an element touching on video and image manipulation that felt very relevant in our current age of AI and misinformation. I think I did this one justice.
