Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

Drawing 659 / 2025 Artwork 61: Ren from With You and the Rain, which is a series I picked up blind this season and I'm glad I did. The vibes are chill and fun. I'm always one for a good slice-of-life series, and this handily fits the bill.

You're a very good artist I would say, don't give up, maybe that algorithm stuff can be configured or so. :techman:
I did some investigation on the Instagram analytics this morning, and I'm seeing a connection between a post I made of signs I saw at the No Kings protest I went to last month and my interactions noticeably dropping after that. I've heard in the past that IG intentionally messes with accounts posting certain political content (unsurprising given the owner of the parent company), and now I've got my first-hand taste of it.

But now that I've started experiencing this, it doubly gives me motivation to keep going. My Irish ancestry loves persisting against the horrors out of pure spite.

Okay, this is pretty much how I envision one of my main characters in my fiction writing. Nineteen years old, seen some combat action / had Bad Things happen but still very upbeat, bubbly personality. She is one-quarter Japanese, so kind of a elf / pixie face. She had a bob cut but is trying to let it grow out.

Here' the official character design for reference. I think in the contemporary scenes in the show she's late 20's/early 30's, but it still works:

This week's episode showed her during high school with an interesting short cut with longer "sideburns" that helped to frame her face. Her old hairstyle is cute, but the jellyfish bob she has an adult is *chef's kiss*.

Drawing 662 / 2025 Artwork 64: Commander Jett Reno from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, continuing my annual tradition of making a new Star Trek illustration based on the new SDCC panel. Never did I think I would make an anime likeness of Tig Notaro, but here we are.

Elsewhere this week, EVA-Trek's writers room has reopened! Thus far, the first 25 pages of the season 3 premiere script have been written, comprising the Teaser and first two Acts of the feature-length story "The Next Storm, Part II."

The trailer for Starfleet Academy looked really good, I'm psyched about the casting, but most of all, I'll be tuning in for Jett Reno.
Jett, the Doctor, Vance, and Tilly are bringing me in the door, and I hope Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti, and the newbies keep me around.

^For as much noise as they made about Tilly being part of the new series when SFA was first announced, they haven't said much of anything about Mary Wiseman's involvement in ages, and I didn't see Tilly in the trailer or any of the publicity photos they released.
