Firebird's Sketch of the Week Series

Had this idea come into my head almost immediately after finishing my Picard portrait, and I couldn't resist putting it to paper as soon as I could.

Turns out, Riker was slightly exaggerating about "Bring Your Pet to Work Day" actually being a real thing, much to Worf's chagrin.

Today's sketch of the week turned into a TNG/Evangelion crossover because why not try taking two things I love and see if they work together? I'm pretty satisfied with how it came together... even if drawing out the officer's quarters background took way too damn long.

Well, Sunday's TNG/Eva crossover got this idea burred into my head, so I had to draw it last night to clear it out of my system once and for all. Here's the Evangelion cast if it were taking place in Trek's 24th century:

It's not quite up to my usual level of detail & quality, but I quickly banged this one out in about an hour or so on a whim before going to bed.

I could see the Angels as what left Armus behind to stew....
Hmm, this suddenly gives me an idea. I'm gonna file that away for a potential future sketch and/or a short one-shot comic perhaps, which I'll need to do some concept sketches of an Evangelion unit in Starfleet livery for.

Have it amputate a D-7 boom

I detail a horrific bridge design at the thread here called “Things you didn’t notice in Star Trek until years later” that would be fitting

Completely shifting gears for this week's sketch after a buddy gave me an idea to do some Hitchcock manga adaptions. So, before I start drawing a page featuring a chibi kawaii Jimmy Stewart having nightmares in Vertigo, here's my rendition of one of the most iconic scenes from North by Northwest:

The timing on this sketch worked out perfectly with the holiday. What else could I draw for today other than a tribute to Independence Day, complete with Will Smith's "welcome to Earth!" moment.

If you'd asked me a few months ago to rank the actors I'd draw manga adaptions for, Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, and Randy Quaid would never have made the list. But, the movie is ridiculous and fun, so why shouldn't my drawing be just as ridiculous?

I really like your TNG/Evangelion crossover sketch (I've never seen Eva, though) - well, I like ALL your art - and Jake's horrid jumpsuit worn by whoever that is second from right really amused me (as did "Geordi") :D

We've reached a bit of a milestone with today's drawing, as this is the FORTIETH Sketch of the Week since beginning the series back in January. I seriously can't believe I've already done so many!

I decided to draw a tribute to what has become one of my all-time favorite anime/manga series since discovering it earlier this year, Maison Ikkoku. Took nearly 4 hours to complete, and my back was killing me by the end since I was hunched over working on the background details for so long, but I'm very happy with the final results!

Today's sketch of the week dips back into the waters of a Star Trek manga adaption, and it's the first time I've drawn the characters from Lower Decks. Almost decided to change up the faces into my manga style, but it made more sense to stay consistent with the show's art design.

This week's sketch is going back into my Wrath of Khan manga adaption project. I had the idea to handle the scene between Kirk and Peter Preston during Kirk's inspection of Engineering. If I had to be honest, I did it for the excuse to draw Bones McCoy doing a full-on anime facefault and the opportunity to draw a Starfleet cadet nearly soiling themselves in fear. That first panel was a bitch because of the level of detail I stupidly put into it, but I think it helps the page pop.

Rather than maintaining two separate threads for my art, I'm going to post future updates to my TWOK manga here instead and keep things a little simpler for me.

Oh, this is fantastic (as is the previous Lower Decks strip)! You're right, that first panel really does a great job of setting the scene and drawing one in. I like the bold outlines around Scotty, Kirk and Bones that tells us these are the main characters/focus of the scene.
