Fire Fly?

Hah, I suspect that you're gonna get very different answers on the subject. I'm considering myself a fan, but there are also those who are not very fond of it. So in the end, you'll have to find out for yourself, I suppose. Are you at least familiar with the Joss Whedon humor? Then you'll have a rough idea what you're gonna get yourself into. Fun and adventure... at least for me.

Definitely worth checking out. Great characters and dialogue, plus you get closure with the SERENITY movie.

(FYI: It's one word, FIREFLY, not FIRE FLY.)

How are we supposed to know what you will like and if its worth your time?

I can say I thought it was an excellent series, killed way before its time. I recommend it to anyone.

And its Firefly, one word.

I've heard there are a few people who don't like it. Just a few, though.

Or 99.8% of the population...who haven't seen it and wouldn't know it.

I disliked it in its first run, liked Serenity the movie since it had some direction. Rewatched every episode since (I'd only seen 2-3 before that). Still don't think it's great, but not as awful as I used to think.

Firefly is so short that the amount of time it'd take explaining why it's worth your while is actually more then watching the series.

Now would you rather waste your time listening to people explain why you should watch it, or just watch it? Is your call.

I wouldn't have bothered, but like BSG it's a show a friend lent me and I really enjoyed. It took an episode or two to grow on me but I really liked it; shame it didn't get more episodes.

I really think Mr. Whedon needs to change his tactics when planning shows and negotiate to get the full run complete. I should think by now he has enough clout to do that? Either that or break new ground by going sans-network and get partial funding so he can do a direct-to-download production.

It is a space western, and a very good one at that. and the movie serenity which is based off firefly is great. Sit and watch a couple episodes, there is a lot worse ways to waste time.

How is it and is it worth my time

It's one of those shows that you pretty much can't take anyone's word for. You need to watch an episode or two and make up your own mind. There are people who love it beyond love. And there are people who hate it to an almost pathological degree.

I personally find it unwatchable because there's something about the writing that I find, I dunno - oppressive. Yet I'm a fan of virtually everyone in the cast, from Nathan Fillion to Ron Glass of Barney Miller, to Morena Baccarin of V, to Jewel Staite of Stargate, to Summer Glau - who I think is fantastic in everything she does. They even got Christina Hendricks in there.

It pushes literally every button that should be pushed for me to fall into the "love beyond love" category. But for some reason it doesn't. And I've tried - I own copies of Firefly and Serenity, and the gag reels are hilarious, at least.

But I won't go so far as to not recommend it because lots of people love it. Suggestion is to try to avoid too many fan or basher comments (because they'll be colored one way or the other) get the DVD (or use venue of choice) and watch an episode or two and judge for yourself. If you like it - and if you're into the Whedon style of TV, then you might - cool. If not, welcome to the fraternity! ;)

I think Whedon should try to get some gigs going on cable channels.
